Job description

Overview i3 is seeking a Risk Manager to join our team and support an Aviation Project Management Office by leading comprehensive risk, issue, and opportunity (RI&O) management activities. This role is critical to delivering an integrated risk posture that informs leadership decision-making across weapon system design, development, production, and sustainment. Responsibilities As a Risk Manager, your duties will include the following, but are not limited to: Lead and execute risk, issue, and opportunity management activities, including planning, identification, analysis, mitigation, and monitoring Provide analytical support to assess and quantify risks impacting cost, schedule, and performance (the "iron triangle") across the program lifecycle Collaborate with government stakeholders, prime contractors, engineers, product managers, and business teams to ensure risks are identified, documented, and managed effectively Maintain and update risk data within the Active Risk Manager (ARM) tool and ensure accurate, auditable documentation of risk narratives and mitigation actions Support program planning by integrating risk mitigation strategies into systems engineering processes, acquisition schedules, and lifecycle activities Prepare and deliver executive-level briefings and reports to communicate risk status, mitigation progress, and emerging issues to leadership Facilitate Risk Management Working Groups and Risk Management Boards (RMBs), including action item tracking and meeting coordination Develop and maintain the Risk, Issue, and Opportunity Management Plan (RIOMP) in compliance with DoD policies and guidance Apply data-driven analysis and statistical methods to identify root causes and improve risk mitigation strategies Support lifecycle cost estimation, budget recommendations, resource alignment, and Test & Evaluation (T&E) activities to ensure system effectiveness and safety Adapt risk management frameworks and reporting structures to align with evolving acquisition phases and program milestones Operate effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, making timely and informed decisions Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) 8+ years of relevant experience in risk management, program management, or defense acquisition Active DoD Secret security clearance required (must be able to maintain) Experience supporting defense acquisition programs, aviation systems, or complex technical projects Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including statistical and data-driven analysis Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing senior leadership Experience working in DoD, federal, aerospace, or defense environments * U.S.

Citizenship Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting DoD or Federal aviation programs Familiarity with Active Risk Manager (ARM) or similar risk management tools Experience working with cross-functional teams, government stakeholders, and acquisition programs Strong technical documentation, briefing, and reporting experience Familiarity with systems engineering processes, Test & Evaluation (T&E), and lifecycle cost analysis Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of office administration and procedures. Exceptional judgment capabilities and relationship management skills. * Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills; ability to clearly communicate in discussions and written documents, and to deliver feedback clearly and tactfully.

Interact with a diverse array of customers and staff in a professional and courteous manner. Work independently with accountability for accurate and complete results. * Be extremely organized and exceptionally detail oriented.

  • 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
