Risk Specialist
Waste Connections, Inc. | The Woodlands, Texas (Corporate Headquarters) On-Site
Due to continued growth, Waste Connections is seeking a Risk Specialist to join our Corporate Risk Management team. This role plays a critical part in supporting our insurance, claims, and risk management operations by ensuring data accuracy, driving coordination across stakeholders, and enabling informed decision-making across a complex and evolving business portfolio.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality work in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update data within the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Generate and analyze loss runs, property schedules, fleet schedules, and other ad hoc reports
  • Support issuance, tracking, and management of Certificates of Insurance and related compliance documents
  • Maintain and update named insured and DBA schedules
  • Review and validate facility COPE data and ensure accurate system updates
  • Partner with third-party engineering vendors to track and manage site recommendations
  • Assist with DMV filings, auto ID card requests, and coverage-related inquiries
  • Maintain workers' compensation posting notices and coordinate distribution
  • Facilitate accurate data transfer between field operations, Risk, and insurance brokers
  • Support risk, insurance, and claims initiatives, including acquisitions and integration activities
  • Maintain and track certificates of insurance for newly acquired entities
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by Risk Management leadership

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 4+ years of experience in risk management, insurance, claims, legal, or a related field
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a collaborative environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and business systems
  • Experience with RMIS platforms (e.g., Ventiv, GRA) is a plus
