WROC-TV/RochesterFirst.com in Rochester, New York is hiring a News Photographer to shoot and edit video for television and digital platforms.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Shoot, edit, and deliver high-quality video for newscasts, RochesterFirst.com, mobile apps, streaming platforms, and social media
  • Actively gather, develop, and contribute story ideas, emphasizing content that performs across digital and broadcast platforms
  • Serve as a frontline content creator, prioritizing speed, accuracy, and audience impact in breaking news and enterprise coverage
  • Utilize modern storytelling tools and technology, including:
    • Smartphones and mobile journalism apps
    • OSMO and similar stabilized camera systems
    • Traditional ENG cameras and newsroom editing systems
  • Create vertical video and mobile-first content designed for social and digital distribution
  • Operate live transmission technology (TVU, LiveU, or similar) in live and breaking news environments
  • Conduct interviews and gather information in the field with a digital-first mindset
  • Edit and publish content quickly for simultaneous use across linear, digital, and social platforms
  • Use newsroom systems and mobile tools to post content in real-time, including during live or breaking coverage
  • Collaborate with reporters, producers, and digital teams to ensure consistent, effective multi-platform storytelling
  • Maintain a strong understanding of audience engagement and platform-specific content strategies
  • Ensure all content meets Nexstar standards and complies with FCC and applicable regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, photography, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in news photography, editing, and multi-platform content creation
  • Demonstrated ability to use modern field technology, including mobile devices and OSMO-style equipment
  • Experience producing vertical video and social-first storytelling
  • Strong understanding of digital publishing, social media platforms, and audience engagement
  • Ability to work independently and own content from gathering through distribution
  • Excellent storytelling, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Familiarity with broadcast and digital editing systems
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and breaking news situations

Compensation: $16 - $18.50 an hour commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level.
