Description
The City of Geneva is seeking a rising GIS Technician to support our GIS Division at Public Works. Under the general supervision of the GIS Coordinator, this position is responsible for gathering, maintaining and updating GIS data and software pertaining to significant utilities and operations city-wide. Not only is this a key support position for our Water, Wastewater, Electric and Street divisions, but it also provides support to our Police, Fire and other departments at City Hall.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to build upon their already established GIS skills and enjoys a mix of routine data and systems management along with the challenge of supporting multi-departmental projects. Examples of Duties
Including but not limited to:
  • Collect, update and maintain network data for city managed databases.
  • Create new and modify existing maps utilizing various GIS data and systems.
  • Prepare detailed drawings and imagery using CAD, web apps, dashboards, asset surveys, etc.
  • Assist the GIS Coordinator in deploying GIS solutions to meet the need of city departments and residents.
  • Collect data by surveying, utilizing UAS flights, and other various methods.
  • Streamline workflows and improve efficiency by creating scripts and ArcGIS tasks.
  • Analyze data, processes and final output to make recommendations regarding improvements and efficiency.
  • Maintain new and historic utility developments and data and make updates to internal and external websites accordingly.
  • Provide technical support for GIS-related problems. Carryout training and inform staff of usage and abilities pertaining to GIS capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Geography, Geology, Environmental Science or related field;
  • Two to three years of progressively responsible experience working with GIS database systems
  • Solid principles of mapping and cartographic techniques and practices, including coordinate systems, geographic transformations, scale, map design and database management.
  • Working knowledge and experience with ArcGIS

Certifications and Licenses:
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • FAA UAS Remote Pilot (Part 107) License, or ability to obtain

Other combinations of education and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

The regular hours for this position are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
