About this Job
Mission Statement of the Office of State Fire Marshal: To uphold the law and provide for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disabled individuals and to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings. This position location will be TBD and will serve in the HEALTHCARE section.
Minimum Qualifications
All qualifying options will also require an approved certification at the time of appointment (hire) or promotion:
Five years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate's degree in any field plus four years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
An associate's degree in a criminal justice field, a fire service field, a construction field, architecture, or an engineering field plus three years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR
A bachelor's degree in any field plus two years of experience in a criminal justice field, arson/criminal/fire investigations or inspections, a fire service field, building codes enforcement, a building construction field, architecture, occupational safety, or an engineering field; OR

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This position requires the incumbent be a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officer, in accordance with all of the requirements set forth by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement. The incumbent is responsible for fire investigations of residential structures, commercial structures, movables, and other property that sustains damage as a result of fire. The incumbent is also responsible for investigation of fires resulting in human death. May serve as an assistant to a supervisor or manager by performing administrative functions.
May serve as lead worker, trainer, or mentor over lower-level Deputies.
May conduct the most complex inspections and investigations requiring special certifications.
May serve as subject matter expert to District Attorneys, Attorney General, United States Attorney, and the insurance industry; provides testimony in court as needed.
May assist in coordinating the revision of agency rules, regulations, and procedures to meet required changes; may provide training or conduct presentations on such changes.
May perform grant management tasks and submit related reports.
