Description:

The Recovery Representative II will be responsible for handling a desk of subrogation claims and tasks across all lines of business, identifying, investigating, and negotiating recovery of all amounts owed to Company as deductibles or as subrogation with respect to losses paid under Company policies. The Recovery Representative II will report to the Recovery Unit Team Lead.


Job Responsibilities


The Recovery Representative II will maintain the following responsibilities pertaining to Subrogation

Recovery:

  • Reviews first party claims such as Physical Damage, Cargo, PIP, Property claims and evaluates for subrogation potential by a careful analysis of the facts surrounding the loss, the probable liability of each involved party, and the investigation needed to document the liability of and damages to be sought from the responsible party.
  • Assigns independent adjusters and/or experts as necessary, coordinating and providing clear direction on subrogation investigations.
  • Identifies and pursues recovery from responsible parties, their insurers, or both. Reviews questionable proposed settlements with Recovery Unit Team Lead for direction. Regularly and promptly contacts responsible parties and/or their insurers following submission of a Company demand for payment.
  • Assigns and coordinates with subrogation attorneys when legal disputes arise and/or when necessary to enforce subrogation demands.
  • Reviews invoices to ensure compliance with company agreements and guidelines.
  • Pursues uninsured motorists for subrogation, notifies Department of Motor Vehicles to suspend driving privileges if appropriate, communicates with district or county attorneys to request restitution, negotiates repayment terms if necessary.
  • Maintains and regularly utilizes a diary system to ensure prompt follow up, completion of required actions and maximum available collection in all assigned files. Maintains Claim Files and utilizes IIS, Apollo, and Duck Creek claims systems. Determines and diaries statute of limitations date on all recovery files.
  • Reviews trade journals, case law, state statutes and insurance policies to remain current with charges in the law and coverages.
  • Retains and manages outside vendors and experts, as warranted.


The Recovery Representative II will maintain the following responsibilities pertaining to Deductible

Collection:


  • Reviews referred Claim Files and verifies amounts owed on liability deductibles, initiates formal demands to the policyholders, follows up with policyholders on diary, tracks recovery amounts and enters recoveries in Claim File. Responds to written and telephonic inquiries and disputes arising from the deductible collection efforts and resolves disputes over the amounts claimed by the Company. Follows up with policyholders to assure payments are made. Evaluates each recovery attempt, determines whether internal collection efforts will be successful, and, if not, recommends either writing off unpaid balance or referring deductible amount to collection agency. Sends advice to Underwriting when all deductible collection attempts are unsuccessful on current policies.
  • Coordinates with referring examiners to ensure deductibles have not been waived or compromised in some other manner affected collectability. Coordinates with assigned claims representatives managing open workers compensation claims to ensure subrogation strategies benefit the overall claim resolution efforts.
  • Generates invoices for deductible amounts, reviews files for received payments, calculates amounts due back to the policyholders after receipt of subrogation funds and issues deductible reimbursement checks.

Qualifications


Required Knowledge and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Basic math
  • Basic literacy in computer knowledge and use

Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • Claim investigation practices.
  • Insurance courses such as IIA or AIC in coverage, subrogation, legal principles, legal terminology, contracts, and business law.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in liability and/or subrogation claim handling.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $99,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
