Airline Assistant Controller


Classification: Exempt

Salary Range: $70,000 to $90,000

Reports to: Controller

Date: June 2026


Job Description

We are seeking an assistant controller to support the controller of our Newark (NJ) facility in managing the daily financial activities.


Essential Functions

• Assist with the financial integrity of the unit’s accounting and financial reporting and the security of the unit’s assets.

• Assist the controller with the daily revenue and labor reporting.

• Assist the controller with the weekly flash reporting and month-end close process, including variance analysis and explanations of weekly and monthly food / product cost variances, labor hour variances and operating cost variances.

• Support the accounting team with the management of:

-Billing, accounts receivable and collections.

-Account payable, inventory accounting and expense management.

-Payroll, including hours reporting; employee benefits relating to costs and cost controls.

- Preparation and verification of the general ledger and trial balance

•Support the plant management team with purchasing, requisitions, capital expenditure requests, product cost control, labor management, and accounting questions, as well as financial decision-making.

• Assist the controller with the annual budget process.

• Assist the controller with customer profitability analysis.

• Manage certain assigned administrative processes.

• Help develop processes and procedures that help the unit meet or exceed financial goals.

• Ad hoc reports, tasks and management support, as assigned from time to time by the controller.


Skills and Qualifications

• BS Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Minimum of 4 years relevant experience.

• Experience with accounting and administrative processes in an operational setting required

• Experience within the food industry preferred

• Experience with the budgeting process preferred.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.

• Sage, ADP and Paycom knowledge preferred.

• Supervisory experience preferred.

• Must have Organizational Skills, be Detail Orientated and be able to Multitask.

• Must have Good Communication skills, both written and oral.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position will act as team’s supervisor when the controller is out of the office.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional food manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for long periods of time; and reach with hands and arms.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position in a 24/7/365 work environment. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
