Job description

Reporting directly to the newly appointed System Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kearney Regional Medical Center will be responsible for execution, management, financial performance, and oversight of all operational components of KRMC in alignment with local and system strategy.

The next Chief Executive Officer of KRMC will serve as the strategic leader in setting the vision and direction for the hospital, communicating a clear and compelling vision and roadmap for the future, and inspiring the Board, System leaders, physicians, employees, and the community to achieve that vision. This leader will have the ability to translate the future vision for the hospital into an executable plan focused on safety, quality, performance, patient satisfaction, employee/physician engagement, and growth.

This leader will effectively balance the responsibilities of operating within an integrated health system while serving as the primary executive leader for the local market, ensuring both system alignment and strong market-specific leadership. This role requires the ability to lead decisively at the local level while effectively partnering with system leadership to advance enterprise-wide goals.

KRMC and its Chief Executive Officer have a rich history of community engagement and advancement. The Chief Executive Officer is highly visible in the market promoting the values and reputation of KRMC and is an important civic leader representing the interest of the region on various boards and committees.

Key Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the CEO include:
Work with the broader organization, develop an inspired and effective strategy grounded in identified areas of mutual benefit and organizational goals. Specifically, contribute to the design of Bryan Health's strategy to add services, recruit providers, and grow revenue of KRMC.
Establish a structured career development model that enriches and grows relationships with regional education programs.
Embrace the importance of system collaboration and work effectively with the Bryan Health COO and other entity presidents and senior management to achieve both hospital and network/system goals.
Structure an efficient organization and realize KRMC's vision and values through the selection, appointment, development, coaching, performance feedback, competency assessment, development and motivation of a high performing senior management team.
Continuously assess the climate of physician and employee relations across KRMC and the communities it serves. The CEO will proactively engage physicians and employees in communication and will recognize fully the importance of ongoing collaboration and open dialogue with the Medical Staff-including working with the clinical leaders to identify opportunities to reduce physician and staff burnout.
Select, develop, and motivate key leaders and high-potential talent to ensure future leadership is capable of meeting current and future organizational needs and is held accountable for organization-wide performance.
Ensure long-term financial and operational success through achievement of budgetary, financial, and operational goals consistent with Bryan Health's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
Reinforce and support a culture of excellence, quality, and service such that patient and physician engagement and clinical outcomes are achieved at the highest possible levels.
Sustain an environment of continuous quality improvement, including measurements against external benchmarks for clinical, financial, and operational performance.
Ensure that KRMC is a model for population health, quality/safety and patient/consumer satisfaction.
Represent Kearney Regional Medical Center at local, state, and national activities, as required.
Creates accessible and seamless consumer experiences.
Serves as a visible, active, and engaged member within the community, while encouraging leadership team and medical staff as well.
Achieves outstanding quality care performance, improves patient experience, as well as grows services and overall market share.

The Candidate
Experience and professional qualifications required for the role include:
Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or a related field) required.
A minimum of six years of progressive leadership and operations experience in a healthcare system, acute hospital, multi-specialty physician organization, or ambulatory surgery center with track record of having met financial, operational, and other organizational goals.
Proven leadership experience managing operational performance and results for clinical and administrative staff in an acute care setting.
Demonstrated financial acumen, including budget management and resource allocation to achieve financial goals and operational objectives at the hospital and across the system.
Successful track record managing the operational delivery of high-quality clinical outcomes and promoting a culture of accountability, quality, and patient-centered care.
Naturally curious collaborative leader with the ability to drive change and successfully work within a matrix environment. Demonstrated achievement in creating and fostering collaborative, high performing teams that produce results.
Strategic planning skills, analytical ability, good judgment, outstanding interpersonal and communication capabilities, team player with a strong commitment to the organizational focus, and experience with Lean operating systems and principles.
Ability to effectively interact, build positive relationships, consensus and mediating differences with Board members, administration, physicians, and all levels of staff within the hospital, system, and community.
Extensive experience driving best practice standards and ensuring collaboration across business lines and functions.
Skills and demonstrated experience in establishing excellent working relationships and strategic partnering with various teams and executives across an integrated organization to achieve a shared vision, values, and objectives. Ability to motivate others through visionary leadership.
