Description
The Business Office at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Student Account Collections Specialist position.
A Student Account Collections Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving outstanding balances on student accounts.
Examples of Duties
  • Assist Students with financial obligations, payment plan options and balances.
  • Communicate with students and families to solve problems concerning account communicate billing process.
  • Review past due accounts for pre-collection processing and activates.
  • Manage and monitor accounts held with internal and external collection agencies.
  • Ensure payments and fees are applied timely to accounts.

  • Apply and release financial accounts holds to student accounts in accordance with university policy.

  • Assist bursar with necessary account adjustments.

  • Assist students regarding 1098T tax report.

  • Work as integral part of accounts receivable and collection tea.

  • Prepare billing for students/third party agencies; maintain files from each billing; and monitor delinquent accounts.

  • Work closely with registers office during de-registration process.

  • Act as backup cashier and receptionist.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • Two years' experience in accounting/business environment.
  • Strong customer support, strong computer, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Experience with ellucian computer systems preferred.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Multitask.
  • Must be articulate, have a pleasant personality and able to work well with diverse groups.
  • Able to work independently, able to interact positively with student, faculty, staff, and third-party agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
