The job duties of a Sheetmetal duct mechanic typically revolve around the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of sheet metal ductwork systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Here are some common tasks and responsibilities:
1.Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand the layout and requirements for the ductwork system.
2.Measuring and marking sheet metal for cutting and shaping to fit the required dimensions and design.
3.Cutting and forming sheet metal using shears, saws, and bending machines to create duct sections and fittings.
4.Assembling and joining ductwork components using welding, soldering, or mechanical fastening techniques.
5.Installing ductwork in commercial or residential buildings, ensuring proper alignment and connection of sections.
6.Insulating ductwork to prevent heat loss or gain and to reduce noise transmission.
7.Sealing joints and connections with appropriate sealants or tapes to ensure air-tightness.
8.Installing dampers, grilles, registers, and other accessories as required by the design.
9.Testing and balancing the airflow in the ductwork system to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
10.Inspecting and repairing ductwork for any leaks, damage, or corrosion.
11.Cleaning and maintaining ductwork systems to ensure proper airflow and prevent the buildup of dust or contaminants.
12.Collaborating with other team members, such as HVAC technicians or engineers, to ensure proper integration and functioning of the HVAC system.
13.Adhering to safety guidelines and regulations to minimize workplace accidents and injuries.
