About Us
Join a talented team of engineering professionals at Vogt Power International Inc. Vogt is based in Louisville, KY and specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of equipment and solutions to the power generation industry. We are an industry leader in heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with both domestic and international customers.
Position Summary
The Commissioning Engineer implements Check-out, Start-up and Commissioning strategies for HRSG equipment and appurtenance. Works closely with Central and Thermal Engineering to understand operational philosophy of all designs of HRSGs. This position strives to turn over to the customer a fully operational plant that satisfies both the customer and is profitable to Vogt Power International.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Cold Commissioning:
  • Perform walk-downs and check-out with P & ID's.
  • Develop punch-list with responsibilities and completion dates assigned.
    • Note: Upon satisfactory completion/acceptance of walk-down and proper turnover, the Technical Advisor is released.
  • Responsible for testing and inspection of mechanical equipment supplied by VPI.
  • Responsible to see that mechanical adjustments are made.
  • Work with customers to verify VPI supplied instrumentation is operational.
  • Work with customers to verify loop testing of VPI supplied controls is complete.

Warm Commissioning:
  • Work with customers and/or contractor during boil-out and/or acid cleaning and steam blows.
  • Responsible for first instrument setting of VPI supplied equipment.
  • Verify that all VPI supplied equipment is ready for initial operation and functional testing.
  • Monitor VPI supplied equipment during reliability run.
  • The Commissioning Engineer works according to the project related O&M and training manuals.
  • Support Central Engineering department during performance testing.

Other:
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Construction.

Requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in the operation of multi-pressure level HRSGs with reheat. Training position is available for qualified candidates without the above experience. Training would be with another experienced Commissioning Engineer.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must exhibit a broad understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics as they apply to the equipment supplied by Vogt Power International.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain customer relationships at a high level.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport and be willing to travel frequently and on short notice, including spending approximately 90% of the time on the road, working some weekends, completing multi-month assignments (often around 4 months), and occasionally performing multiple assignments back-to-back, primarily within the United States.

The base pay range for this Commissioning Engineer role is $124,800 - $191,360 annually.
