The College employs a selective admissions process that ensures a highly motivated and strong design community. The Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning (LAEP) program delivers core and advanced design studios, seminars, and free electives in and outside the department that expose students and faculty to multiple learning experiences in the Research Triangle Region, the many historic and contemporary urban destinations of the Southeast, the NC State University European Center in Prague, and interdisciplinary programs in Greece and Chile. The curriculum provides students with the intellectual capacity coupled with technical and form-giving "design know-how" expected and required to create innovative, long-term solutions focused on human and ecosystem health and quality of life. Students have unique opportunities for intellectual and professional development wherein they learn to design and test innovative, long-term solutions to landscape problems including adaptation to climate change, increasing, or decreasing population shifts, and resultant impacts on transportation, water, and energy supply and consumption, transportation systems and land use; place-making, and the promotion of environmental justice, and social wellbeing. Essential Job Duties The Department of LAEP is accepting applications for part-time non-tenure-track faculty appointments for a one-semester or one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. Rank to be determined based upon education and professional experience. Specific teaching opportunities include landscape architecture and environmental planning studios at all levels, including advanced comprehensive studios and/or seminar courses. Applications will be reviewed as these part-time non-tenure track teaching opportunities arise. Other Responsibilities Appointments may be available on a semester or academic year basis, with the possibility of renewal. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requires a master's degree in landscape architecture, environmental planning or a related field, with professional practice in that related field. OR Terminal degree in a field relevant to the specific area of instruction (i.e. landscape architecture, environmental planning, urban/environmental design, etc.) with professional practice in that related field. A terminal degree is required to teach at the graduate level. Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability or aptitude in the areas specific to the courses to be taught.
- Demonstrated potential for directing activities specific to the courses to be taught.
- Ability and willingness to participate in departmental and university affairs.
- Demonstrated leadership in the professional field and community.
- Demonstrated professional or scholarly competency with a mix of traditional and leading-edge technologies and methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional license to practice landscape architecture is preferred, but not required.
- Experience in teaching at the college level is preferred, but not required.
- Also of interest would be post professional degree(s) including a Ph.D.
