Job description

Instagram's mission is to inspire creativity that brings people together. We support those who create and shape culture around the world. It's a product where design taste shapes the product strategy — from the camera to the grid to Stories to Reels, the biggest bets have been design-led.This is a high-impact role focused on shaping the experiences that define how people share, discover, create, and connect on Instagram. You'll work as a key design leader on a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers, data scientists, and researchers. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, moves fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, and is genuinely excited to jump into whatever problem needs solving next.As a Product Designer on Instagram, you'll have the opportunity to play a central role in the way we build technologies — ensuring they are valuable, easy to use, and of the highest level of craft and execution. You'll be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from brainstorming the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. We'll expect you to utilize your full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills, while contributing to high-level strategic decisions with product and executive partners. This posting represents different full-time Product Design roles across the Instagram organization.
Product Designer, Instagram Responsibilities:
  • Lead and deliver design projects of large and/or ambiguous scope across Instagram's product ecosystem.
  • Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something useful and valuable for our 2 billion+ users.
  • Design flows and experiences that simplify and distill down complex actions into usable interfaces.
  • Design new experiences or layouts that evolve and define visual systems.
  • Innovate with AI to create new capabilities, improve personalization, or unlock new forms of value that weren't previously possible.
  • Contribute to strategic decisions around the future direction of Instagram products.
  • Give and solicit feedback from designers and a broader product team in order to continually raise our bar for quality, while also taking on mentorship.
  • Lead cross-functional partnerships with product managers, engineers, researchers, and content strategists to oversee the user experience of a product from conception until launch.
  • Champion design craft and raise the bar on the team — not just through your own work but by influencing how others design.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 8+ years of product design experience, with demonstrated impact on consumer products at scale
  • A portfolio that shows end-to-end ownership of complex, multi-surface product experiences
  • Experience leading end-to-end development efforts, driving progress with Cross Functional Partner (XFN) teams, developing design roadmaps, and making high-impact decisions balancing user needs with business growth objectives
  • Expertise in advanced prototyping techniques, such as creating functional prototypes or using emerging technologies
  • Comfort with data: you use metrics, research, and experimentation to inform and validate your design decisions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership in non-product dimensions that have made a team stronger and positively impacted the work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
