Job description

At Onstream Inspection, a division of MISTRAS Group Inc., we are leaders in providing advanced non-intrusive pipeline and facility inspection services to the energy sector. As a Field Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting inline inspection (ILI) projects by preparing, deploying, monitoring, and recovering inspection tools for pipeline operators across North America. You will also perform mechanical and electrical maintenance on inspection equipment while working directly with clients in the field to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project execution.

This position is ideal for a hands-on, safety-conscious individual with strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to travel. The successful candidate will enjoy working in dynamic field environments while supporting industry-leading inspection technology and delivering exceptional service to our clients.

Responsibilities:

Tool Deployment & Field Support:

  • Assist or lead the launching, tracking, and receiving of inline inspection tools (tethered and free-swimming).
  • Perform preliminary field data assessments during inspection projects.
  • Maintain the tools, parts, and supplies required for field operations.
  • Communicate professionally with clients onsite throughout project execution.
  • Safely perform work in a variety of environments, including high-traffic and confined space locations.

Tool Maintenance & Equipment Preparation:

  • Conduct mechanical and electrical maintenance on inline inspection (ILI) tools and equipment.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Inspect, prepare, and test tools after deployment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Verify refurbished equipment meets company quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used in maintenance logs or digital systems.

Field Readiness & Compliance:

  • Travel extensively to support customer projects (up to 75% travel, based on operational requirements).
  • Follow all job-specific safety requirements, company procedures, and required documentation.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and comply with all PPE requirements.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively while onsite.
  • Maintain a driving record that meets company driver eligibility requirements and comply with company driving policies and applicable traffic laws.
  • Adhere to Hours of Service (HOS) regulations where applicable.

Documentation & Communication:

  • Complete field reports, inspection documentation, and required project paperwork accurately.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings, FLHAs, JSAs, tailgate meetings, and operational debriefs.
  • Communicate project progress, findings, equipment issues, and concerns to the Project Manager in real time.
  • Report incidents, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns promptly.

Housekeeping:

  • Keep field trucks clean, organized, and fully stocked with required tools and supplies.
  • Report vehicle or equipment maintenance deficiencies for servicing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop workspace when working from the facility.
  • Dispose of waste materials properly and maintain housekeeping standards after every job.
  • Proactively identify and correct hazards or disorganization in work and storage areas.
  • Support general field and shop activities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical background preferred.
  • Previous experience in the oil & gas, pipeline, or related industry is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License meeting company driver eligibility requirements.
  • Valid Passport (asset; required for cross-border travel).

  • Basic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use Windows and proprietary software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and personal accountability.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-directed, professional, and safety conscious.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing and able to travel extensively (up to 75%) based on operational needs.
