The Opportunity -

Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, this position will be responsible to perform site reviews of single family and/or multi-family projects enrolled for home warranty while they are being constructed. You will evaluate the quality of construction and will ensure that practices follow relevant provincial building codes and minimum construction quality standards.

You will provide construction reviews, assessments, and inspections on potential new projects to assist with assessing risk and to provide technical construction expertise during the claims process. This position does require travel within the regional area and would be considered a "remote worker" role, with visits to the branch location when required. Additionally, this position would be provided with a company vehicle due to therequired regional travel.

A day in the life -

  • Responsible for site reviews of new homes and buildings during construction to ensure compliance with quality construction standards and building codes.

  • Escalation of high-risk reports to Senior Manager, Technical Services.

  • Assist in identifying solutions to bring a project onside with acceptable standards.

  • Advise builder of deficiencies in building code, methods, materials, and workmanship.

  • Perform technical construction reviews for the claims department in respect of home warranty.

  • Provide guidance and advice on technical construction matters to the underwriting and claims departments.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with builders, their trades, project consultants and other industry stakeholders.

  • Daily travel to construction sites in your company supplied vehicle, with occasional travel out of the geographical region.

What you will bring to the team -

  • 5 years' experience in residential construction industry.

  • 1-3 years of home warranty related experience would be an asset, but is not required.

  • Canadian Home Inspector certificate from an accredited institution would be an asset, but is not required.

  • Strong knowledge of residential construction procedures, methods, techniques and building codes.

  • Tech savvy - ability to learn inspection related software, use of a company phone and the use of Microsoft office products.

  • A strong knowledge of provincial work safe requirements.

  • The ability to drive and maintain a valid driver's license in good standing is mandatory.

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Construction Science would be an asset, but is not required.

  • Red Seal Carpenter certificate or a Journeyperson trade would be an asset, but is not required.

Salary Expectations -

The expected salary range for this position is $57,000.00 to $62,000.00 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
