This role in summary
This position builds the foundation for progression into a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. In this position employees will use the following types of equipment; grinders, mills, bores, lathes, saws, shears, punches, drills, filers, sanders, drill presses, albor presses, hydraulic presses, polishers, demagnetizers, lifts, hoists, and carriers. Under department supervision or a Journeyman this position maintains, troubleshoots and repairs dies, die components, and tooling used in the production process. Tool Makers often work in production areas outside of the Tool Room to troubleshoot dies and tooling in personnel must comply with safety and work rules for the area they are working in, and follow all required safety practices.
Minimum requirements
A resume is required in order to be considered for this role
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic machine shop skills or CNC experience
  • Previous experience with toolroom machinery (listed above)
  • Understanding of modern punch press principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, lead personnel, and supervisors.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with whole numbers and decimals; understand geometric functions and perform basic calculations; and perform trigonometry calculations as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Ability to understand and comprehend all tool and fixture language (high school level

Preferred skills and experiences
Successful completion of the following: Blueprint Reading (606-111), Applied Math I & II (804-370; 804-371), and Precision Measuring (623-185) classes.
