Employment type: Full-time / Project based Barstow TX (onsite 3 weeks, work remote 1 week) ** TRAVEL ROLE

Industry: Mission-critical and large-scale construction (data centers, hospitals, rapid-build / field hospitals, industrial and modular structures)

Read This First — Certification Requirements Are Mandatory

This is a specialized, code-driven structural inspection role. Applications without at least one of the required certifications below will not be considered. Please list your active certification numbers and expiration dates on your resume. Do not apply if your background is limited to general commissioning, MEP, or non-structural QC.

About the Role

We are hiring an experienced Structural Special Inspector to perform on-site quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on structural work for large, complex builds. You will be physically present in the field, inspecting and documenting structural steel, concrete, masonry, welding, and bolting in accordance with the approved plans, project specifications, and IBC Chapter 17 special inspection requirements.

This role is 100% on-site at active construction sites. Expect full days in the field, exposure to construction conditions, and coordination directly with contractors, engineers of record, and the project quality team.

What You'll Do

•       Perform special inspections of structural elements: cast-in-place and reinforced concrete, structural steel, high-strength bolting, welding, masonry, anchors, and post-installed fasteners.

•       Verify field work conforms to approved construction documents, project specifications, and applicable codes (IBC Chapter 17, AWS D1.1, ACI, AISC).

•       Witness and document concrete placement, rebar placement, welding operations, and bolt tensioning.

•       Perform or witness materials sampling and field testing (concrete, soils, grout, steel) as assigned.

•       Write clear, accurate daily inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs); track deficiencies to closure.

•       Coordinate with the engineer of record, general contractor, and QA/QC manager on findings and corrective actions.

•       Maintain calibration records and follow all site safety requirements.

Required Certifications — At Least One (More Is Strongly Preferred)

Applicants must hold and maintain one or more of the following active certifications:

•       ICC Special Inspector certification(s)  e.g., Structural Steel & Bolting, Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Spray-Applied Fireproofing.

•       AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).

•       ACI certification - e.g., Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I, or higher.

•       NICET certification (Levels I–IV) in a structural discipline such as Structural Steel or Concrete.

•       ASNT NDT certification (Level I / II / III) for non-destructive testing of welds and materials.

Required Experience & Skills

•       Documented field experience performing structural special inspections on commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects.

•       Working knowledge of IBC Chapter 17, AWS D1.1, ACI 318, and AISC standards.

•       Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications.

•       Strong, clear technical writing for daily reports and NCRs.

•       Comfortable working full days in active field/construction conditions, including heights, weather, and confined areas as required.

Preferred / Nice to Have

•       Prior experience in data centers, hospitals, or rapid deployment / field hospital projects.

•       Willingness to travel for project assignments.

•       OSHA 30 certification.

•       Experience with digital inspection/reporting platforms.

Physical & Site Requirements

•       On-site presence required for the full assignment - this position cannot be performed remotely.

•       Able to stand, walk, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.

•       Able to lift and carry field testing equipment.

•       Compliance with all site-specific PPE and safety protocols.
