What is an inside sales associate?

Inside Sales Associates are sales professionals who primarily conduct sales activities remotely, rather than meeting clients face-to-face. They use phone calls, emails, and online communication tools to generate leads, nurture relationships, and close deals. Their responsibilities often include prospecting for new customers, following up on leads, providing product information, and maintaining customer records. Unlike outside sales roles, inside sales associates work mainly from an office or remotely, leveraging technology to reach potential clients. This role is common in industries such as technology, manufacturing, and services where products or services can be effectively sold without in-person meetings.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an inside sales associate?

To thrive as an Inside Sales Associate, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and effective communication skills, typically supported by a high school diploma or bachelor's degree. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software like Salesforce, as well as proficiency in email and telephony systems, is essential. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and the ability to build rapport quickly enable you to excel in customer interactions and achieve sales targets. These skills and qualities are crucial for consistently generating leads, closing deals, and fostering long-term customer relationships in a competitive sales environment.

How does an inside sales associate typically collaborate with the marketing and customer success teams?

Inside Sales Associates frequently work alongside marketing to follow up on leads generated through campaigns and to provide feedback on lead quality. They also interact with customer success teams to ensure a smooth transition for new clients and to address any concerns that might arise during the sales process. This cross-functional collaboration helps ensure that prospects receive a consistent experience and that the inside sales team is aligned with broader company goals.

Hybrid in Seattle, WA
Job Description
The Senior Coordinator plays a key role in supporting sales and account management activities by maintaining accurate customer and program records, resolving inquiries, and driving profitable growth within an assigned territory or market segment. This hybrid position combines inside sales support, customer service, and administrative responsibilities, with a strong focus on data accuracy, proactive outreach, and collaboration with field leadership and sales teams.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date account contact information, venue details, and program records in the customer management system, ensuring consistency and data integrity.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries related to SKU rationalizations, pricing changes, asset transfers, and ownership changes, ensuring clear communication and successful resolution.
  • Handle account requests including account setup and maintenance, equipment service coordination, accounting disputes, product tracking, and delivery claims, using efficient processes to drive timely outcomes.
  • Collect information from internal and external customers to identify root causes of issues and implement creative solutions that protect customer relationships and support timely, accurate delivery of products and services.
  • Participate in business planning with field leadership and customer account managers to set business goals, identify customer support needs, and uncover opportunities to achieve sales targets.
  • Conduct proactive sales and support outreach calls by customer tier, focusing on driving results and strengthening relationships within the assigned portfolio.
  • Develop and manage a personal sales strategy to identify opportunities within the existing customer base, aiming for profitable and successful sales outcomes.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain strong business relationships with current customers in the assigned territory or market segment to generate new product sales and expand business.
  • Measure and report weekly sales performance and regional activities to ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) and sales goals are met, and adjust tactics as needed to drive results.
  • Prepare and submit activity and results reports, including monthly and annual portfolio performance analyses, to support tracking, benchmarking, and goal attainment.
  • Manage designated beverage business leads by qualifying and converting them into new business activations or disqualifying opportunities that are not aligned with business objectives.
  • Support monthly and annual sales quotas by managing qualified CRM opportunities through to closure, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up.
  • Actively participate in division sales team calls to share updates, collaborate on strategies, and align with broader regional and organizational goals.
  • Make in-person annual regional visits or periodic business travel as needed to foster collaboration, strengthen customer relationships, and support sales initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between field teams, office staff, and support departments regarding policy changes, inventory updates, and unscheduled system or support interruptions, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook and Excel, to perform data entry, track activities, analyze performance, and prepare reports that support sales and account management efforts.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a role with account management or customer service responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to think on your feet and respond effectively to changing situations and customer needs.
  • Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and ensure data consistency.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple accounts, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience in sales support or inside sales, with a focus on supporting sales teams and customer accounts.
  • Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, active listening, and problem resolution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook for communication and Excel for data entry and reporting.
  • Comfort working with KPIs and performance metrics, and the ability to measure, track, and report on sales activities.
  • Ability to manage CRM opportunities and follow structured processes to move leads through qualification to closure.
  • Effective collaboration skills to work closely with field leadership, sales teams, and support departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge or experience in the coffee, beverage, or foodservice industry is preferred.
  • Experience with SKU rationalizations, pricing changes, and asset or ownership transfers is an advantage.
  • Background in administrative support in a sales or customer service environment.
  • Familiarity with inside sales support processes and tools.
  • Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Ability to prepare performance analyses and activity reports for monthly and annual review.
  • Comfort conducting proactive outreach calls to customers across different tiers.
