Position Title: Database Lead (LCAT: Database Administrator)
Position Location: Ft. Leavenworth, KS
Description: Liberty is seeking a Database Lead supporting MCTP at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
This position is responsible for the design, creation, maintenance, and integrity of Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC) and Warfighter’s Simulation (WARSIM) databases that are essential for powering complex, military training simulations during Warfighter Exercises (WFXs) and other training events. Working as a Team Lead, the DBA ensures the availability, performance, and accuracy of simulation data, enabling the training of senior military leaders and their staffs.
Key responsibilities:
  • Team leadership and coordination: Lead and supervise a team of JLCCTC and WARSIM database technicians, including parametric database technicians, unit database technicians, and terrain database technicians. Coordinate team efforts to ensure seamless integration and support for military training simulations.
  • Database design and development: Create new databases and lead the database team using best practices for military training simulations, including the design, size, and installation of tables, views, and other database objects.
  • Data integrity and management: Ensure the integrity of data for military training simulations by implementing proper database design and enforcing data restrictions and policies.
  • Data storage and preservation: Develop, implement, and maintain strategies for data storage and long-term data preservation, including backup, archive, and recovery processes.
  • Data extraction and insertion: Possess knowledge and understanding of design methods and guidelines to ensure the proper extraction and insertion of data, supporting the flow of information into and out of simulations.
  • Database administration: Manage, modify, and maintain databases throughout the entire exercise lifecycle, including monitoring performance and troubleshooting issues during training exercises and events.
  • Performance monitoring and tuning: Monitor database performance, identify and investigate issues, and implement changes and tuning to ensure optimal database efficiency, performance, and space requirements.
  • User support and collaboration: Provide technical assistance and support to training analysts, exercise planners, and simulation operators, ensuring their data requirements are met.
  • Collaboration with specialized teams: Work closely with parametric, unit, and terrain database technicians to ensure accurate and effective modeling within simulation systems.
Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is required.
Experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience creating new databases and leading a database team in support of military training simulations using best practices.
  • Three (3) years of experience in ensuring data integrity for military training simulations by implementing proper database design and enforcing data restrictions.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining strategies for data storage and long-term data preservation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of design methods and guidelines to ensure proper extraction and insertion of data.
  • Experience managing, modifying, and maintaining databases in support of military training simulations.
  • Experience monitoring database performance and troubleshooting problems and issues as necessary during training exercises and events.
Clearance: A Secret clearance is required.
DoD Cyber Work Force (DCWF) Qualification: Must meet DoD Manual (DoDM) 8140 qualifications with a primary DCWF role of Database Administrator (461) and a secondary role of System Administrator (451), both at the Intermediate tier.
Operational awareness: Strong understanding of database management systems (DBMS), military training processes, and simulation environments, including knowledge of parametric, unit, and terrain database management.
