Position Summary:

The Finishing Inspector is responsible for the inspection and editing of converted press product using a slitter / rewinder, finishing it into the correct format as dictated by customer specifications. The Finishing Inspector is responsible for meeting customer requirements while conforming to company standards for quality and job parameters.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects printed products to assess and evaluate quality conformance to specifications.
  • Discards or rejects defective product that does not conform to requirements for print quality or product functionality.
  • Operates finishing equipment at required speed to ensure proper slitting, alignment, and roll profile.
  • Examines job orders to determine details such as finished quantities, production times, packaging specifications, and shipping requirements.
  • Notifies supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.
  • Loads, positions, and adjusts master press rolls on holding fixtures or in equipment loading and feeding mechanisms.
  • Moves printed materials using lifts and transports them to storage or finishing areas.
  • Pushes buttons or moves controls and levers to start and control finishing equipment.
  • Monitors finishing equipment in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect malfunctions; make any necessary adjustments.
  • Maintains, or adjusts equipment using proper preventive maintenance techniques.
  • Records finishing data specific to product quantities, copy position, packaging, and shipping requirements using the appropriate quality control forms.
  • Responsible for verifying critical quality conformance to proper line clearance and product segregation processes.
  • Ensures the work conducted within the production area is performed in a safe and efficient manner. Any unsafe work conditions are addressed immediately.
  • Ensures adherence to all quality control processes and procedures and actively supports the company’s internal audit program.
  • Maintains daily time and materials usage reports by entering information into the computer print management system.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Individual must be able to monitor processes, materials and equipment.
  • Individual must be able to work independently with minimal guidance required. This implies good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Individual must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, maintaining flexibility, objectivity and a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Participation and support of 5S initiatives and activities.
  • 1-2 years relevant experience in finishing or inspection preferred.
  • High school diploma / GED / or equivalent preferred.
  • Individual should possess math and computer skills.
  • English language required.

Physical and Other Requirements:
This job is performed indoors in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. Job tasks are performed in close proximity to other people and include exposure to strobe lights, sounds and noise levels that could be distracting. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend or crouch. The employee must frequently stand, walk, talk, and occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include ability to hear alarms and other sensors in a factory environment. Requires use of hands to handle, control or feel objects and operate tools and controls.
