Job description

Responsibilities: Operates Offset Press Machine to develop end-result printed material in accordance with customer specifications: Operate offset press, troubleshoot and monitor operation. Makes ready and operates web or sheet fed offset printing press to print single and multicolor copy from lithographic plates. Examines job order to determine quantity to be printed, stock specifications, colors, and special printing instructions.

Measures plate thickness and inserts packing sheets on plate cylinder to build up plate to printing height and installs and locks plate into position, using handtools, to achieve pressure required for printing. Washes plate to remove protective gum coating. Measures paper thickness and adjusts space between blanket and impression cylinders according to thickness of paper stock.

Fills ink and dampening solution fountains and adjusts controls to regulate flow of ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder. Starts press, examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper and registration, and makes adjustments to press throughout production run to maintain specific registration and color density. Removes and cleans plate and cylinders.

May apply packing sheets to blanket cylinder to build up blanket thickness to diameter of plate cylinder. Oversee General technicians working on equipment. Make adjustments, clear jams, while processing product, maintaining speed and quality.

Ensure efficient and rapid make ready, with unloading and loading. QUALITY: Review and ensure all jobs are complete, accurate and error free. Ensures finished product exceeds customer expectations.

Ensure all checklists are completed. Support and communicate all ISO 9001-2000 standards and quality objectives to the Offset Press Team. Complies with cGMP, HACCP Food Safety Requirements and Chain of Custody OHSE AND CLEAN: Ensures complete adherence and compliance to the OHSE and Clean policies.

Assists team members in maintaining clean and safe environment. Maintains and follows all company policies and procedures for safety, personal protection and hazard materials/waste handling according to established guidelines. Follows all personal protection procedures by use of appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while in designated areas and specific tasks requiring the use of PPE.

Follows established procedures and guidelines for the handling and disposal of all hazardous materials/waste. Maintains and wears proper uniform according to company policy. Use Company provided safety lifting equipment, i.e., hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators, etc

On a regular basis, examines work areas to keep it in a safe and neat condition. Properly stores and arranges work area to maintain cleanliness and safe environment following all safety rules and regulations for grounding, storage, spill clean-up, etc. Effectively demonstrates the ability to maintain work area in a safe and proper working order coaching Crew in safe work practices.

COMMUNICATIONS: Interacts with the team and co-workers in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and contributes to excellent performance. Communicates accurate information to all team members in a professional and courteous manner that conveys a willingness to assist. Accepts direction and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriately.

LEADERSHIP: Create and maintain a high performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation. Develop the team and encourage each member to do what needs to be done, correctly and efficiently. Get it right the first time.

Communicates regularly with team toward goals and required results, providing specific feedback and initiating corrective action when goals or results are not met. Motivate crew to improve quantity and quality of work performed and provide training as required. Consistently uses appropriate established channels of communication.

Conduct team meetings when necessary. Must be able to perform any and all work or additional tasks as required or requested by Department Leads, Shift Leads, or Management. Requirements: High School diploma (or GED).

Minimum of 3 years of Offset Press equipment operation. Must have interpersonal and communication skills. Must possess basic computer skills and mathematical skills necessary to compute percentages, weights and measures.
