Job description
Manager Or Senior Manager Of Collective Action
Hope For New York (HFNY) seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, innovative, and systems-minded individual to serve as its first Manager or Senior Manager of Collective Action (seniority commensurate with experience). This role sits at the heart of HFNY's growing collective impact work, leading two of HFNY's newest networkwide initiatives — the Hunger Collective and the Youth Collective — while also stewarding a portfolio of partner relationships and managing key network events, including the annual Nonprofit Partner Convening and Don't Walk By outreach.
This is an opportunity to drive real, measurable change in New York City by building the connective infrastructure that enables a coalition of nonprofits, churches, volunteers, and donors to work together more effectively and with greater impact. The candidate should be motivated by the opportunity to serve as a builder and backbone convener — equipping and empowering organizations on the front lines to do their best work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hunger Collective Leadership (25%)
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Hunger Collective, serving as HFNY's primary point of coordination for food insecurity collective action across the nonprofit network
- Manage and strengthen HFNY's partnership with Rethink Food to deliver nutritious, restaurant-quality meals to nonprofit partners, scaling from 200,000+ meals in 2026 to 400,000 in 2027
- Oversee and expand the HFNY Pantry Delivery program — coordinating logistics with food hub partners (including the Dream Center) to deliver $1M+ in food value annually to pantry-serving nonprofit partners
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Hunger Collective partner organizations and vendors, conducting regular check-ins, feedback loops, and performance reviews
- Facilitate peer learning convenings and working groups for Hunger Collective participants, fostering shared accountability, best practice exchange, and data-informed programming
- Track and report on Hunger Collective outcomes and impact metrics in alignment with HFNY's logic model and strategic goals
- Identify opportunities to grow and deepen Hunger Collective participation across the nonprofit partner network
Youth Collective Leadership (25%)
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Youth Collective, serving as HFNY's primary point of coordination for children and youth-focused collective action
- Launch and manage HFNY's shared technology partnerships, including AfterschoolHQ (an all-in-one enrollment, attendance, and outcomes platform) and iMentor (a mentoring platform connecting mentors and mentees through structured curriculum and video technology)
- Coordinate onboarding, implementation, and ongoing support for nonprofit partners adopting shared technology platforms
- Facilitate peer learning sessions and issue-specific capacity-building cohorts for Youth Collective participants, helping organizations improve programming based on shared data and insights
- Coordinate with HFNY's Volunteer Programs team to connect volunteer tutors and mentors with Youth Collective partners
- Track and report on Youth Collective outcomes and impact metrics in alignment with HFNY's logic model and strategic goals
Nonprofit Partner (Grantee) Management (25%)
- Serve as primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of HFNY nonprofit partners, maintaining regular touchpoints through partnership plan meetings, site visits, and ongoing communication
- Support partners through the annual grant cycle — including proposal review, award notification, grant agreement execution, and mid-year and year-end reporting
- Monitor partner program performance against grant milestones and outcomes, providing coaching and capacity-building support as needed
- Identify and facilitate capacity-building opportunities — including workshops, cohorts, and one-on-one consulting — tailored to each organization's stage of readiness
- Connect partners to HFNY's full range of resources, including volunteers, in-kind support, peer learning opportunities, and collective action initiatives
- Maintain up-to-date partner records and data across HFNY's systems (Salesforce, Asana, and other platforms)
- Vet, approve, and on-board new nonprofit partners aligned with our Collective Action focus areas
Collective Action Management (15%)
- Plan, manage, and execute the annual HFNY Nonprofit Partner Convening — a network-wide gathering that equips nonprofit partners, fosters peer connection, and celebrates collective impact across the Coalition of Hope
- Serve as primary program staff lead for HFNY's participation in Don't Walk By, the Rescue Alliance's annual citywide outreach to neighbors experiencing homelessness, coordinating HFNY engagement and logistical support.
- Develop event goals, agendas, and programming in collaboration with the Senior Director, Programs, and other team members
- Manage event logistics from start to finish, including venue sourcing, vendor coordination, catering, A/V, communications, registration, and post-event follow-up
- Coordinate with HFNY's Communications team to promote events and produce event materials aligned with HFNY's brand standards
- Track event attendance, engagement, and impact; capture feedback to inform future programming
- Support additional HFNY activations and network events as needed throughout the year
Collective Action Strategic Leadership (10%)
- Develop medium and long-term strategic plans for the Hunger and Youth Collectives
- Explore, design, and launch future collectives – conducting partner needs assessments, identifying and prioritizing issue areas where HFNY can add unique value, and developing and piloting innovative solutions to address needs
- Work closely with the rest of the Program team to ensure alignment between Collective Action and direct nonprofit support strategies
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep commitment to serving the poor and marginalized; personal alignment with HFNY's Christian faith mission
- Manager level: 3–5 years of relevant professional experience; Senior Manager level: 5–7+ years, including demonstrated leadership of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
- Strategic thinker, creative problem-solver
- Experience in collective impact, backbone organizations, nonprofit program management, capacity building, or community organizing is strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders — nonprofit leaders, community partners, vendors, and internal teams — with warmth, diplomacy, and integrity
- Strong project management skills; able to hold multiple workstreams simultaneously, set priorities, and deliver results on deadline
- Comfort with data: able to track outcome metrics, manage reporting systems, and use data to inform decisions and communicate impact
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience facilitating group meetings, trainings, or peer learning sessions
- Self-starter who takes initiative and thrives in a scrappy but collaborative, mission-driven environment
- High level of professionalism, maturity, and discretion with internal and external stakeholders
- Flexible and adaptable; open to feedback with a humble and positive attitude
- Familiarity with New York City's nonprofit sector and faith-based community preferred
- Proficiency in Salesforce, Asana, or similar CRM/project management platforms is a plus
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a related field preferred
OUR CORE VALUES
- We are motivated by our Christian faith: Our desire to serve the city and seek the flourishing of every New Yorker is based on the Christian call to love and provide for our neighbors in need.
- We love our city: New York City is one of the most diverse and vibrant cities in the world, yet it is also full of brokenness, injustice, and inequality. Our work is motivated by our desire to see our city renewed and restored.
- We care about the whole person: We believe that true flourishing can only happen when an individual's spiritual, social, and economic needs are met, and we work with partners who seek the same outcome.
- We can't do this work alone: Fostering community and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do because we know that we are more effective when we work together. Our role is to catalyze the success of all of our partners.
- We build relationships based on trust: Trust is essential to creating authentic, thriving, and lasting relationships, which empowers our partners to achieve their goals.
- We are innovative and data-driven: Solving hard problems often requires taking risks and trying new things. We use data to measure outcomes and inform decisions, which is critical to maximizing impact.
