Role Summary

The Night Shift Pressroom Supervisor is a salaried leadership role responsible for overseeing nightly pressroom operations, ensuring the team meets production goals while upholding quality, safety, and efficiency standards. Reporting directly to the Pressroom Manager, this position provides direct supervision to press operators and support staff, ensures smooth shift transitions, and plays a key role in driving continuous improvement within the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise pressroom operations during the night shift, ensuring alignment with production targets and quality standards.
  • Provide direction and support to press operators, helpers, and other shift personnel, promoting accountability and performance.
  • Monitor press equipment operation; troubleshoot issues or coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure a clean, organized work environment in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
  • Conduct quality checks and ensure compliance with printing specifications and job requirements.
  • Assist with training and development of pressroom staff to build skills and improve team performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of shift activities, including production data, quality issues, downtime, and personnel matters.
  • Collaborate with the day shift and Pressroom Manager to ensure seamless communication and workflow across shifts.
  • Support departmental goals related to efficiency, waste reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in offset printing, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of offset press operations and related production workflows.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with troubleshooting press equipment.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methods is preferred.
  • Willingness to work a consistent night shift schedule and support occasional overtime or weekend work as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced production floor environment with noise, ink/chemical odors, and extended periods of standing.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and manual dexterity.
  • Use of PPE (personal protective equipment) is required.
