Position Summary

The Retail Construction Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing retail construction projects from concept through completion, with a focus on immersive, experiential retail environments. This role manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality, budget, schedule, and brand standards are achieved while coordinating with internal stakeholders, architects, designers, fabricators, contractors, and vendors.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience delivering retail tenant improvements, custom fixture installations, themed environments, experiential retail, museums, attractions, or entertainment-based projects that require complex coordination and high-quality finishes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple retail construction projects through all phases including design development, estimating, bidding, permitting, construction, installation, and closeout.
  • Coordinate with architects, interior designers, creative teams, engineers, landlords, and local authorities.
  • Lead project schedules, milestones, procurement activities, and construction sequencing.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, punch lists, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate fabrication and installation of custom thematic elements, specialty finishes, millwork, graphics, lighting, signage, interactive displays, and decorative features.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, ADA requirements, life safety standards, and landlord criteria.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress, quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
  • Coordinate fixture deliveries, logistics, warehouse staging, and store opening readiness.
  • Resolve field issues quickly while minimizing schedule and budget impacts.
  • Develop strong working relationships with general contractors, specialty vendors, landlords, and internal business partners.
  • Prepare executive project status reports including budget, schedule, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Support value engineering initiatives without compromising design intent or guest experience.
  • Manage warranty items and project closeout documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–10+ years of retail construction project management experience.
  • Experience delivering tenant improvement (TI) projects in occupied retail environments.
  • Experience managing themed retail, experiential environments, museums, attractions, entertainment venues, or hospitality construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing.
  • Knowledge of permitting, inspections, and life safety requirements.
  • Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and millwork drawings.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects across various geographic regions.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 30–60%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with immersive, branded, experiential retail environments.
  • Knowledge of custom fabrication, scenic construction, specialty finishes, and themed architectural elements.
  • Experience coordinating AV systems, interactive exhibits, specialty lighting, and graphics.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • PMP, CCM, or other project management certifications.
  • LEED accreditation is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel to project sites nationwide
  • Ability to walk active construction sites; including climbing ladders, accessing roofs, and basements when necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) on construction sites.
