Job description

The Unit Writer is responsible for reviewing, validating, and preparing production documentation for billing on electric utility construction projects serving Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Electric Cooperatives, and Municipal Electric Systems. This position ensures completed work is accurately documented, properly coded, and supported by required documentation prior to customer invoicing.

The Unit Writer works closely with Project Coordinators, General Foremen, field personnel, subcontractors, and internal departments to review Daily Field Reports (DFRs), production quantities, work orders, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with customer contracts, billing requirements, and company standards. This position plays a critical role in revenue recognition by ensuring unit-based and Time & Expense (T&E) work is accurately documented, validated, and submitted in a timely manner.

Job Description:

Review Daily Field Reports (DFRs), work orders, production reports, and supporting documentation for

completeness, accuracy, and billing compliance.

Validate completed work against customer contracts, unit schedules, and applicable billing requirements.

Review and process both unit-based and Time & Expense (T&E) work for billing.

Verify production quantities, labor, equipment, materials, and supporting documentation prior to billing submission.

Review field documentation for accuracy and coordinate with General Foremen, Project Coordinators, and field personnel to resolve discrepancies.

Ensure all required documentation is complete and supports billable work performed.

Review customer work orders, construction drawings, staking sheets, maps, as-built information, and related documentation as required to validate completed work.

Enter, review, and maintain production and billing information within Infratrac and customer work management systems.

Monitor production reporting to ensure completed work is processed and submitted within required billing timelines.

Maintain accurate electronic records of production documentation and billing support files.

Identify billing discrepancies, missing documentation, or production errors and coordinate timely resolution with field operations and project management.

Assist with customer billing questions and internal production inquiries as required.

Support month-end billing activities and reporting requirements.

Maintain compliance with customer contract requirements, company policies, and documentation standards.

Communicate professionally with field personnel, project management, customers, and internal departments.

Perform other related duties as assigned to support operations and billing functions.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Business, Accounting, Construction

Management, or related field preferred.

Experience in utility construction, electric distribution, construction administration, project coordination, billing, unit writing, or production reporting preferred.

Working knowledge of unit-based construction contracts and/or Time & Expense (T&E) billing preferred.

Ability to interpret Daily Field Reports (DFRs), work orders, production reports, construction drawings, staking sheets, maps, and related documentation.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure billing accuracy.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.

Experience with construction management, work management, ERP, or billing systems preferred.

Ability to learn and use Infratrac, Infratech's production management and billing system, along with customer work management systems.

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting strict deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
