Head of AI Infrastructure Markets

Job description

Who You Are:

You will establish a new business dedicated to the financialization of AI infrastructure. Market participants are accumulating large, correlated exposures across power and compute and lack adequate tools to manage them. This role designs the strategy and client solutions that meet those needs, and over time develops the principal risk-taking framework that extends the product suite. This is a broad mandate with significant scope to shape the direction of the business.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and own the strategy for Galaxy's entry into AI infrastructure markets - define where Galaxy will engage across the range of modes (brokerage, dealing, market-making, structured lending) and how to sequence products so the business earns flow, relationships, and market data ahead of financialization
  • Originate transactions and build the counterparty network across AI labs, neoclouds, hyperscalers, data-center and power developers, utilities and IPPs, crypto-mining operators, and financial counterparties, developing the proprietary market intelligence that any downstream product depends on
  • Design and structure bespoke instruments - forwards, swaps, options, and take-or-pay and capacity-reservation structures - that let clients hedge cost exposure or monetize idle capacity across the AI infrastructure stack, spanning power and electricity, compute and GPU capacity, and inference and token cost
  • Develop pricing and risk frameworks for instruments with limited or no existing liquidity, including mark-to-model valuation, basis decomposition, and proxy and cross-hedging methodologies
  • Build a credit and structured-lending capability where it fits the opportunity - underwriting GPU fleets and data-center deployments against the quality and durability of their contracted cash flows
  • Source liquidity, build exchange and OTC connectivity, and stand up the desk's operational and control infrastructure with legal, credit, and quantitative teams - risk limits, documentation, collateral arrangements, and booking processes - and, as the business matures, design and implement the principal risk-taking framework that integrates proprietary positioning into the client suite
  • Build and lead the team across origination, trading, structuring, and credit; represent Galaxy with exchanges, benchmark and index providers, counterparties, and partners

What We're Looking For:

  •  8+ years building and running a markets business - trading, brokerage, structured products, or physical commodities - with a track record of taking a franchise from zero to scale and running risk or structuring transactions
  • Working knowledge of the AI compute ecosystem - data-center development, neoclouds, GPU economics, hyperscaler dynamics
  • Range across modes (trade, structure, lend, intermediate) rather than a single-product specialty
  • Deep fluency in a flow commodity defined by basis, term structure, and non-storability - power, freight, bandwidth/telecom, or a comparable market where non-fungibility and obsolescence shape how it trades
  • Demonstrated ability to price and manage risk in illiquid or nascent markets - comfort with basis risk, mark-to-model valuation, and proxy hedging
  • Credit and structured-lending judgment, including asset-backed and project-finance structures, with a sharp instinct for the difference between bankable contracted offtake and merchant price risk
  • Quantitative fluency, including the ability to build and interrogate pricing models in Python or a comparable language
  • Institutional-grade execution and a rigorous, skeptical, process-driven approach to risk

Bonus Points:

  • Power or energy trading background, including ISO/RTO mechanics, nodal/zonal pricing, and PPAs
  • Experience in or alongside an AI business, cloud provider, data-center operator, or large energy offtaker, with corresponding understanding of cost structures and procurement
  • Experience financing or operating capital-intensive physical infrastructure
  • Crypto-mining operations experience and the associated power and hardware economics
  • Prior experience launching a new derivatives product, or contributing to the design or governance of a market index or benchmark
  • Entrepreneurial and comfortable operating amid ambiguity, with a clear preference for building over administering an established function
  • Creative - many of the relevant instruments do not yet exist and will need to be conceived and brought to market by the desk
  • Driven and commercially focused, with a clear ownership mentality appropriate to a role of this scope

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary and discretionary bonus
  • Hybrid/Flexible Working Arrangements
  • Flexible Time Off (paid)
  • 3% 401(k) company contribution
  • Company-paid health and protective benefits for employees, partners, and other dependents
  • Generous paid Parental Leave
  • Competitive family planning benefits for US employees
  • Opportunities to learn about the Crypto industry
  • Smart, entrepreneurial, and fun colleagues
  • Free daily snacks and weekly breakfasts/lunches
  • Employee Resource Groups
  • Free coaching and counseling sessions through Headspace
