Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Senior Associate Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, monitoring, and support of the organization's production infrastructure. This role focuses on physical and virtual servers, virtualization platforms, operating systems, patching, infrastructure monitoring, performance, system availability, and general platform stability.
The Senior Associate Infrastructure Administrator supports the compute and systems layer of the Production IT environment and works closely with the team to troubleshoot issues that span servers, virtualization, network connectivity, storage, backups, and hosted production workloads. Effective documentation, collaboration, communication, troubleshooting, and operational discipline are critical for success in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Virtualization
  • Administer and maintain virtualized environments using technologies such as VMware, Kubernetes, or similar platforms.
  • Optimize virtual machine performance and resource allocation.
  • Perform regular updates, patches, and maintenance to virtualization software and supporting infrastructure.
  • Assist with virtual machine provisioning, configuration, migrations, and lifecycle management.
  • System Administration
  • Manage and maintain servers, both physical and virtual, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Perform routine system updates, patches, and configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues in a timely manner.
  • Support Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Assist with production maintenance windows, system validation, and post-change verification.

Infrastructure Management
  • Oversee the operational health and performance of assigned production infrastructure systems.
  • Implement infrastructure improvements and upgrades under guidance of the Lead Infrastructure Administrator.
  • Ensure infrastructure is scalable and can support business growth and production workload requirements.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, system performance, availability, and resource utilization.
  • Assist with incident response and escalate urgent issues to the Production IT Technical Lead when needed.

Capacity and Resource Planning
  • Monitor and analyze infrastructure capacity and resource utilization.
  • Assist with capacity upgrades to meet future demand.
  • Optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient use of infrastructure.
  • Identify performance trends, capacity risks, and recurring operational issues.

Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain technical manuals, build guides, diagrams, and troubleshooting guides for internal use.
  • Support change management by documenting implementation plans, validation steps, and rollback procedures.

Collaboration and Communication
  • Work closely with network, storage, backup, security, application, and operations teams to support infrastructure needs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide status updates.
  • Participate in team meetings, scrum meetings, project planning, and coordination activities.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support production infrastructure incidents as needed.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience or equivalent experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience in infrastructure administration, systems administration, or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or similar platforms.
  • Solid understanding of system administration, including Linux and Windows servers.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring, patching, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with storage connectivity and backup concepts is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to follow documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Relevant certifications such as VMware Certified Professional, Linux certification, Microsoft certification, Network+, or Security+ are a plus.

Travel
Additional travel to offices, conferences, workshops, customer locations, or other business locations may be required. This position may require domestic / international travel up to 25%.
Working Environment
Hybrid - The position is primarily remote, with an onsite response requirement for the Greenville, South Carolina data center. The employee must be able to report to the Greenville data center within one hour when required for production support, incident response, maintenance activities, hardware support, or other business needs.
Physical Demands
This position often requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching with hands and arms, using hands and fingers, handling, or feeling, speaking, listening, and high-level cognitive thinking. Also, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
