What does an information systems manager do?

An information systems manager is an IT specialist who oversees the implementation and maintenance of an organization’s technology. Your duties are to manage a team of IT workers to install or upgrade hardware and software, develop security protocols and practices, and train other workers in how to use the technology. You often provide reports to upper management about the health and safety of the IT systems and make recommendations for improvement. Some information systems managers specialize in a specific area of IT, such as security or networks, while others oversee the operations of the entire system.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an information systems manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Information Systems Manager, you need a strong background in IT infrastructure, systems analysis, and project management, often supported by a degree in computer science or information systems. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing teams and projects. These skills are crucial for ensuring reliable IT operations, securing data, and aligning technology with business objectives.
