Description
The Yale Quantum Institute (YQI) theory group (Yongshan Ding, Aleksander Kubica, Steven Girvin, Shruti Puri) seeks outstanding applicants for multiple postdoctoral openings in quantum information science and engineering. The start date is flexible.
The group has broad research interests and successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with theorists and experimentalists in YQI and elsewhere working on a variety of topics of mutual interest. Current research interests include (but are not limited to):
  • A variety of quantum platforms:
    • Circuit QED and quantum optics of superconducting circuits
    • Rydberg atom array quantum processors and quantum simulators
    • Trapped-ion systems (qubits and oscillator modes)
  • Quantum Error Correction and Fault-Tolerance:
    • Codes and decoders tailored to biased-noise qubits
    • Code surgery compilation
    • Bosonic codes
    • Statistical Mechanics and Non-Equilibrium Many-Body Physics of Error Correction Circuits
  • Design of parametric processes and quantum control of driven non-linear quantum devices
  • Quantum computer architecture, hardware- and noise-aware compilers
  • Computation with Dynamic Circuits that include mid-circuit measurements and feedforward
  • Quantum simulation of many-body and lattice-gauge theory models
  • Microscopic physics of Josephson junctions
  • Other topics of mutual interest

About the Yale Quantum Institute
The Yale Quantum Institute (YQI), founded in 2014, serves as a forum to bring together experimental and theoretical researchers at Yale in the field of quantum information physics, quantum optics and nanophotonics, optomechanics, mesoscopic physics, quantum control, quantum measurement, and quantum many-body physics. It provides a synergistic and collaborative setting for Yale's cutting edge research in these fields. A report from the University Science Strategy Committee identified quantum science as one of Yale's top priorities. Yale is playing a major role in the Co-Design Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA), one of the five DOE national quantum information science research centers, and throughout the State of Connecticut with QuantumCT, a major NSF Regional Economic Engine award, co-led with UConn. YQI faculty also lead ERASE, an NSF National Quantum Virtual Laboratory focused on development and deployment of a full-stack quantum error correction testbed based on novel dual-resonator (dual-rail) erasure-flag qubits in collaboration with D-Wave New Haven (formerly Quantum Circuits, Inc. of New Haven). We also lead PRACTIQAL, an NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute focused on the Physics and Engineering of Practical Quantum Error Correction.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (awarded within the past three years) in physics, engineering, computer science, or closely allied fields (or have satisfied the requirements for that degree by the time they are hired). Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in the physics/engineering and/or computer science of quantum information and computation.
Terms of Appointment
  • All appointments are granted as renewable 1-year contracts up to 3 years duration by mutual agreement with the advisor. Appointments generally start at the beginning of the academic year, but alternative starting states can be considered.
  • The salary will be $70,000 per year.
