Job Summary:
The overall purpose of the Infection Preventionist position is to decrease the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases between patients, staff, visitors and the community. Through strategic planning, leadership and consultation, you will lead and direct the infection control committee in the identification and implementation of infection prevention goals and objectives throughout the facility.
The Infection Preventionist reports to the Director of Nursing and partners with the IDT team and Medical Director to develop a system of care that promotes sound and scientific infection prevention principles and practices.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing School and a current and valid RN/LVN/LPN license in the applicable State.
  • Minimum of one-year supervisory experience in a long-term or health care setting is preferred.
  • Must complete Infection Preventionist Course and obtain certification
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from department heads, customers, (Patients, family members, physicians, etc.) and the general public.
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must have the ability to adhere to strict deadlines

Essential Functions:
  • Monitor/ Review the following for accuracy, completion, required documentation and appropriate intervention daily:
    • Telephone Orders for Antibiotics
    • Pre-assessment for suspected infection
    • Medication and Treatment (if applicable) Administration Record
    • Individual Infection Control Surveillance Forms/Assessments
    • Lead Antibiotic Stewardship Daily Meeting and document minutes
    • Antibiotic Time-Out for all antibiotics 72 hours after first dose
    • Required monthly reports
    • Lab and diagnostic reports
    • Check Glucometer and Refrigerator Temperature Logs
  • Track and trend C. Difficile diagnosis by using C.Diff Tracking Worksheet
  • Observe infection control practices for staff daily and conduct on the spot education as necessary:
    • Hand Hygiene
    • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) don/ doff
    • Point of care testing (glucose, antigen)
    • Any additional identified needs
    • Complete one observation worksheet per week, per category (5 systems = 5 observation sheets)
    • Maintain worksheets in IP Observation binder
    • Provide copies to HR for submission in CantexU
  • Participate in Stand-up
  • Review 24-hour report looking for changes in condition/ potential infections
  • Review medical records to ensure assessments, interventions, documentation, and notifications (PR/ MD) were completed appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Manage patient and employee immunizations
  • Ensure timely testing and documentation for TB testing and Flu/ Pneumonia vaccines
  • Enter physician orders, if applicable
  • Provide required bi-monthly in-services
  • Provide in-services based on identified needs as needed
  • Work with HR to assign CantexU courses as needed
  • Complete recommendations from Pharmacy within 72 hours of receipt
  • Complete recommendations from Registered Dietician within 72 hours of receipt
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
