What is an infant babysitter?

Infant babysitters are caregivers who specialize in looking after babies typically from birth to 12 months old. Their primary responsibilities include feeding, changing diapers, ensuring the infant’s safety, and providing age-appropriate stimulation and care while parents or guardians are away. Infant babysitters may also follow parents’ routines and instructions regarding sleep schedules, feeding, and soothing techniques to maintain consistency and comfort for the baby.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an infant babysitter?

To thrive as an Infant Babysitter, you need a basic understanding of child development, infant care techniques, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with baby monitors, first aid kits, and infant safety protocols—sometimes supported by CPR/first aid certification—is important. Patience, attentiveness, and strong communication skills help build trust with both infants and parents. These abilities ensure the safety, well-being, and healthy development of infants in your care.
