Overview

AtkinsRealis is seeking a Manager of Building Structures - Industrial to join our team centered in Exton, PA, although candidates located near another major AtkinsRealis office within the United States will also be considered. In this leadership role, you will oversee a high-performing structural engineering team responsible for delivering complex, fast-paced design-build projects across the manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, support project execution, and foster a collaborative, results-oriented team environment.

This is a strategic leadership role for a senior structural engineer who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, team leadership, and client partnership. You will lead multidisciplinary collaboration, shape technical standards, and drive the delivery of critical infrastructure projects that support industrial innovation.

Your role

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of structural engineers and designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration
  • Guide career development, conduct performance reviews, and support succession planning
  • Partner with Practice and Technical Directors to build capability and elevate technical standards

Technical Excellence & Project Delivery

  • Serve as the technical authority for structural design on complex industrial projects
  • Review, approve, and ensure the quality of structural deliverables across the team
  • Sign and seal designs where required, ensuring compliance with state regulations
  • Lead structural design efforts for:
    • Steel-framed buildings (industrial, manufacturing, and commercial support facilities)
    • Concrete foundations, slabs, and specialty structures
  • Apply advanced analysis methods and validate designs through engineering judgment and hand calculations

Client & Business Impact

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, defining project requirements and delivering solutions aligned to scope, budget, and schedule
  • Support business development efforts, helping to grow client relationships and secure new work
  • Ensure projects meet financial, schedule, and quality targets, contributing directly to business performance and backlog growth

Operational Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement in design quality, project delivery, and team efficiency
  • Champion safety and compliance across all phases of design and construction
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with architecture, MEP, and process engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Support construction through RFIs, shop drawing review, and technical guidance
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred; MBA or leadership training a plus)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain additional state licensure
  • 15+ years of structural engineering experience, including industrial project experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing teams and delivering complex projects
  • Strong expertise in structural design tools (e.g., RISA, STAAD, Tekla Tedds)
  • Experience with Revit (preferred) and AutoCAD
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $185,000 - $205,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
