Industrial Engineer Project Manager information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an industrial engineer project manager?

To thrive as an Industrial Engineer Project Manager, you need a solid background in industrial engineering principles, project management, process optimization, and typically a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project), Lean Six Sigma certification, and proficiency in data analysis tools like Excel or Minitab are commonly required. Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help you manage teams and stakeholder expectations effectively. These skills are crucial to ensure successful project delivery, drive efficiency, and meet organizational objectives within time and budget constraints.

What are some common challenges faced by industrial engineer project managers when coordinating cross-functional teams?

Industrial Engineer Project Managers often encounter challenges in aligning the goals, timelines, and communication styles of diverse teams such as engineering, operations, and supply chain. Balancing technical requirements with project deadlines and budget constraints can require strong negotiation and problem-solving skills. Effective collaboration depends on clear communication, proactive risk management, and the ability to adapt plans as project needs evolve. Building trust and maintaining transparency across departments are essential for ensuring project success and stakeholder buy-in.

What does an industrial engineer project manager do?

An Industrial Engineer Project Manager oversees engineering projects that aim to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity in industrial operations. They combine their knowledge of engineering principles with project management skills to design workflows, optimize processes, and manage resources. Their responsibilities often include coordinating teams, setting project timelines, ensuring budget adherence, and communicating with stakeholders. By streamlining production systems and managing projects from conception to completion, they help organizations achieve operational excellence.

What is the difference between Industrial Engineer Project Manager vs Industrial Engineer?

AspectIndustrial Engineer Project ManagerIndustrial Engineer

Job description

Industrial Engineer, pH and Glass Production

At Endress+Hauser, progress happens by working together. As the global leader in measurement instrumentation, our ~18,000 employees shape the future in the field of process automation. Whether developing and realizing new technology as a team, collaborating to build instrumentation, or strengthening vital relationships with countless global industries, we work to create trusted relationships that help everyone thrive. As a family-owned company, we look beyond short-term moves and work to create a vision that is forward-thinking for our people, our clients, and the world at large.

This Industrial Engineer role is designed for an experienced professional who can bridge technical expertise in glass and pH sensor production with strong project management and cross-functional leadership. The position offers the opportunity to drive innovation and operational excellence in a global manufacturing environment.

What is the role about?

We are looking for a Industrial Engineer - pH and Glass Production to join our Group and assist in driving and supporting engineering initiatives focused on product manufacturing and the seamless transfer of production from Germany to the production facility in Anaheim. This role ensures the successful implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments and international locations.

Which tasks will you perform?

You will:

  • Plan, organize, and manage engineering projects for pH sensor and glass production, including technology and process transfers from Germany to the Anaheim plant.
  • Lead process implementation and improvement initiatives for glass cracking, glass blowing, and assembly operations, ensuring quality and yield targets are met.
  • Own and drive yield improvement actions and process changes based on statistical process control (SPC) data analysis.
  • Coordinate and support the implementation of new products and maintain existing product lines, including item masters, bills of materials, and bills of operations using SAP ERP and MES software.
  • Evaluate and implement new equipment and process technologies; assess vendor proposals for equipment purchases and design efficient layouts for implementation.
  • Develop, document, and revise production processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Design workstations, fixtures, and tools using CAD software to optimize production efficiency and safety.
  • Train production staff on new and revised processes, ensuring knowledge transfer and compliance with quality standards.
  • Analyze and report on production data, providing actionable insights to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Interface with department managers, leads, and international teams to support product transfers, process improvements, and data management activities.
  • Communicate regularly with global engineering and master data teams to align on production needs and best practices.

What do we expect from you?

You:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent project management certification is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing, project management, and technical process development, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience in glass product manufacturing and assembly processes is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with pH and/or electrochemistry is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial engineering principles, LEAN manufacturing, Six Sigma, and statistical process control.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to communicate with international teams.
  • Self-starter with the ability to define engineering tasks, quickly learn new processes, and work independently.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed.

What can you expect from us?

  • Family-owned, highly committed global company with a sustainable vision of the future.
  • Lifelong learning encouraged by versatile training, tuition reimbursement, success coaching, and further education opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefit package (to include medical, dental, vision) and 401(k) savings with company match.
  • Compensation is competitive and includes bonus opportunities.
  • Work-life balance encouraged through our 10 company-paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave, employee assistance programs (financial, mental, and physical health and wellbeing), and employee discounts.
  • Employees work in a safety-first, climate controlled, clean manufacturing facility with utilization of Lean practices and ergonomic workstations to enhance productivity and comfort.

The listed salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 annually, but the actual package offered may vary depending on different factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation for this position would include other elements which include an annual nondiscretionary bonus.
