Job description

KERAMIDA is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our growing EHS Compliance team in Indianapolis. Engineers and scientists who start in this role are frequently promoted to Project Manager and other senior positions as they build technical depth and strong client relationships. In this position, you will work with clients and other KERAMIDA colleagues on a broad range of projects, providing services including multimedia compliance management for air quality, stormwater, wastewater, and solid and hazardous waste. This fast-paced work environment offers exposure to diverse and unique opportunities in the environmental compliance and sustainability field. Responsibilities

  • Air, wastewater, and stormwater permitting and development of written plans and programs
  • In-plant services to support manufacturing clients
  • Stormwater, wastewater, and waste sampling and related field activities
  • Compliance and sustainability data collection and analysis
  • Training clients on a variety of programs and plans
  • Conducting on-site visits to a variety of industrial clients to understand their environmental compliance needs and to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations
  • Comprehensive environmental compliance audits/gap assessments
  • Management and tracking of ongoing compliance obligations in all regulatory programs for clients in multiple industrial sectors
  • Staying current with advancements in environmental science, sustainability, and regulations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental/civil engineering, or a related field


Required Skills

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory and technical documents
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Competence in core Microsoft Office software
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of staff and client organizations
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history
  • Willingness to travel overnight, typically less than 10% of the time


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior industrial, consulting, or other relevant work experience
  • Engineer Intern (EIT) certification, or eligibility and interest in pursuing professional engineering (PE) licensure
  • Familiarity with state or federal air, water, or waste regulatory programs


Physical and Field Requirements

This position combines office-based work — permitting, plan and report development, data analysis, and reporting — with regular field work at client sites. The requirements below apply during field assignments, which vary by project and season.

  • Ability to perform field work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including on active industrial and construction sites
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety-toe footwear, hard hat, and eye and hearing protection
  • Ability to pass a respirator medical evaluation and fit test, including being clean-shaven where required
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, access elevated platforms, and walk uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry sampling and monitoring equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during site visits and audits
