Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Access, the Lead Access Coordinator provides case management guidance to the Access Coordinator team while overseeing services for specialized student populations. This position is also a shared service position for LSU Online, for which the Lead Access Coordinator will maintain an LSU Online caseload and serve as the staff liaison. This position assesses disability documentation, determines appropriate accommodations, coordinates special programs, and collaborates with campus partners to ensure consistent, high-quality disability services and student support.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE
- Serve as the primary case manager and liaison for shared services between LSU Online and Disability Services.
- Serve as case manager for designated specialized student populations.
- Advise students with disabilities regarding their rights and responsibilities under the ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures.
- Analyze and interpret disability related documentation to determine eligibility for services and accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of appropriate academic support services and accommodations under ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures.
Enhance Support for LSU Online
The number of students enrolled in LSU Online registered with Disability Services has grown exponentially in the past few years. As the primary case manager for the shared services between Disability Services and LSU Online, the Lead Access Coordinator will need to quickly determine what is working well and where improvements can be made in the partnership in serving these online students.
Strengthen Support for Specialized Student Populations
The Lead Access Coordinator has an opportunity to advance support for specialized student populations by strengthening collaborative partnerships, enhancing accommodation practices, and identifying innovative strategies that improve access and student success across specialized programs including the Academic Center for Student Athletes, LSU Eunice (LSUE) Bridge Program, Pre-Scholars (PSA), Student Support Services for Disabilities (SSS-D), and Veterinary Medicine.
Enhance Customer Service through Individual Student ConnectionsEach individual interaction between a student and a staff member is an opportunity to impact an individual student. By championing a culture of exceptional customer service, the Access Coordinator can improve student satisfaction, solidifying relationships with students and campus partners, and contribute to increased student engagement, persistence, and overall success.
ATTRIBUTES OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
- Demonstrates a knowledge of disability-related issues, especially the provision of accommodations, and how various disabilities contribute to an educational setting.
- Committed to advocating for students and supporting institutional and divisional priorities and initiatives, specifically a commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, and designing programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind.
- Does not start with "no" when addressing student concerns or requests, but instead works to find innovative ways to solve problems and meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Possesses the ability to navigate complex systems and provide ideas on how to mitigate challenges students may face within these structures.
- Collaborates well with others across campus to solve problems and mitigate barriers that prevent students with disabilities from realizing their educational goals.
- Willingness to admit to and learn from mistakes and help others through mistakes they make in a way that fosters positive personal and team growth.
- Can communicate with clarity, direction, and conviction in person, in written communication, and in virtual spaces.
Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs. Foremost, we maintain a commitment to quality which is rooted in the belief that LSU students deserve our best effort. Every interaction we have with students should communicate care, relevance, polish, and attention to detail. We work to ensure every space, place, and staff-to-student interaction communicates a sense of home to students. Finally, we design programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind.
