Individual Giving Associate information

What does an Individual Giving Associate do?

An Individual Giving Associate is responsible for supporting an organization’s fundraising efforts by managing and cultivating relationships with individual donors. Their duties often include coordinating donor communications, processing donations, maintaining donor databases, and assisting with fundraising campaigns and events. They play a key role in ensuring that donors feel valued and engaged, which helps increase donor retention and contributions. This position typically works closely with development teams to help achieve fundraising goals and support the organization’s mission.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Individual Giving Associate?

To thrive as an Individual Giving Associate, you need a solid understanding of fundraising principles, donor relations, and data management, usually supported by a bachelor's degree in a related field. Familiarity with donor management databases like Raiser's Edge or Salesforce, as well as proficiency in CRM systems and basic analytics tools, is highly valued. Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and relationship-building skills help you connect with donors and manage multiple priorities effectively. These skills and qualities are essential for cultivating donor loyalty, meeting fundraising goals, and supporting the organization's mission.

What are the main challenges an Individual Giving Associate might face when cultivating donor relationships?

Individual Giving Associates often encounter challenges such as maintaining consistent, personalized communication with a diverse donor base and effectively stewarding relationships to encourage ongoing support. Balancing multiple priorities—like organizing fundraising campaigns, tracking donor interactions in databases, and meeting revenue goals—can also be demanding. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate closely with development teams and senior leadership to align strategies. Over time, mastering these challenges can lead to greater responsibility within the fundraising department.

Job description

Description:

About HealthFinders Collaborative For more than 20 years, HealthFinders Collaborative has been a trusted, community-powered hub for health and connection across southern Minnesota. We provide accessible, culturally relevant, whole-person care through school-based clinics, mobile outreach, behavioral health, dental care, and more. Our care model is relational and rooted in our values of dignity, equity, connection, and trust. We believe everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and cared for, regardless of insurance status, income, or background.

We Welcome You to Apply We value lived experience, transferable skills, and nontraditional career paths. If this job excites you—even if you don’t meet every requirement—we encourage you to apply. We’re committed to supporting the right candidate as they grow into this role and become an important part of HealthFinders Collaborative’s fundraising team.

What You’ll Do As HealthFinders Collaborative’s Community Giving Associate, you’ll help build meaningful relationships between HealthFinders and the people who make our work possible. This is a next-step fundraising role designed for someone with some fundraising or related experience who is ready to deepen their skills while learning HealthFinders’ values-based approach to fundraising. You’ll receive coaching and hands-on experience managing your own donor portfolio while supporting broader donor engagement strategies across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to build fundraising skills, grow your experience, and potentially move into a position with greater responsibility over time. This position is part of HealthFinders’ Advancement Team, which includes fundraising, communications, and community engagement. Together, we build strategies that center equity, community, and care. We are values-based fundraisers integrating Community-Centric principles into our work.

Key Responsibilities One-to-One Fundraising (Approximately 50-60% of Time)

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 50 individual donors ranging in gift size from $500 to $5,000.
  • Learn and practice values-based donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Build relationships with donors through meetings, phone calls, email, and other personalized outreach.
  • Work alongside the Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies while gradually taking greater ownership of donor relationships.
  • Help donors connect their values with HealthFinders’ mission and impact.

One-to-Some, Small Group Fundraising (Approximately 20-30% of Time)

  • Support fundraising strategies for major and mid-level donors within your portfolio and the Executive Director’s portfolio.
  • Help plan and facilitate donor gatherings, learning opportunities, and other cultivation activities.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to identify donors who may be ready for deeper one-to-one engagement.
  • Recruit, support, and steward Community Builders (table hosts at our annual fundraiser) as a strategy to engage donors, cultivate relationships, increase giving, and contribute to expansion of HealthFinders’ donor base.

Supporting One-to-Many Fundraising Strategies (Approximately 10% of Time)

  • Learn and support HealthFinders’ annual appeal strategies.
  • Coordinate with consultants supporting appeal development and implementation.
  • Help prepare stewardship materials, donor communications, and fundraising stories.

Teamwork & Collaboration (Approximately 10% of Time)

  • Participate in donor strategy meetings and Advancement Team planning.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and activity in Salesforce.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and consultants to advance fundraising goals.
  • Participate in ongoing coaching and professional development in values-based fundraising.
Requirements:

Who You Are You have a 2-5 of years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit work, and/or community engagement, sales, customer relationship management, volunteer coordination, or another relationship-centered field, and you’re excited to continue growing. You’re organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities. You’re comfortable using technology such as Microsoft Office and Salesforce (or another CRM), or you’re eager to learn. You’re excited to build your fundraising skills with the support of a skilled team, an Executive Director who is directly involved in fundraising and major gifts, mentorship from others, and hands-on experience. You’re interested in growing into increased responsibility over time. You enjoy working with a team, sharing meals, stories, and care for each other as we take on the difficult and rewarding work of shifting healthcare system to work better for all patients.

It’s a bonus if you bring: Experience working with donors or volunteers directly. Experience supporting fundraising appeals or donor communications. Knowledge or connection to the Faribault, Owatonna and/or Northfield communities. Awareness of systemic inequities and a desire to challenge them through your work. Spanish or Somali language proficiency.
