Our Story
Hailing from Clarendon, Jamaica, Gareth Powell, affectionately known as Chef G, inherited the art of West Indian cooking from his grandmother, Ms. May. Inspired by his roots, he pursued culinary and hospitality training at the renowned Runaway Bay Training Institute on Jamaica's Northern coast.
After honing his skills in esteemed establishments like Sandals- Royal Plantation, Grand Lido Braco, and Riu Hotel, Chef G's passion unexpectedly transformed into a flourishing family business.
In 2016, propelled by his love for Caribbean culture and Jamaican flavors, Chef G brought his culinary expertise to Houston's streets with Jamaica Pon Di Road Street Kitchen—a food truck offering a tantalizing taste of island paradise. A genuine family venture, Chef G worked his magic in the kitchen while his family managed the logistics, nurturing a community of local foodie fans.
As the wheels turned, the food truck became a local sensation, attracting crowds with its fusion of traditional and modern dishes and Chef G's warm spirit.
