Who You Are

Sila's Manufacturing Engineering team in Moses Lake is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the reliable operation, optimization, and continuous improvement of Sila's first-in-class Silicon Carbon anode manufacturing process. This role blends advanced mechanical design, hands-on troubleshooting, fabrication expertise, and equipment reliability engineering.

The ideal candidate brings strong CAD and drafting capabilities, practical industrial experience, and a deep commitment to safety and functional design. You will work both independently and cross-functionally to solve complex operational challenges, develop practical engineering solutions, and support R&D and production initiatives. This role offers opportunities to lead projects, influence reliability strategy, solve technical problems and design for manufacture, operability and cost management.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide direct, hands-on mechanical engineering support to troubleshoot and resolve daily production issues.
  • Support and optimize industrial equipment including pumps, motors, blowers, furnaces, piping systems, valves, and material handling systems.
  • Translate field observations and operational issues into practical mechanical design solutions.
  • Assist with mechanical repairs, retrofits, and custom equipment modifications.
  • Create detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs, models, and fabrication drawings using CAD tools including Autodesk Suite, Fusion, Inventor, Plant 3D, and SolidWorks.
  • Develop and maintain Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Design mechanical fixtures, equipment modifications, and fabrication packages to support operational needs.
  • Establish and maintain CAD standards, libraries, and engineering work practices.
  • Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, controlled, and compliant.
  • Partner with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and asset lifecycle performance.
  • Utilize operational data to implement condition-based monitoring and downtime prevention strategies.
  • Apply safety-by-design principles and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Be familiar with the Process Safety Management (PSM) plant environment (PHA, HAZOP, MOC, PSSR, etc).
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and Mechanical Integrity initiatives.
  • Conduct field inspections and translate site conditions into engineered solutions.
  • Interface with external vendors, fabricators, and repair contractors.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
  • 2-5 years of mechanical engineering and design experience in Chemical Processing, Chemical Manufacturing,Industrial Production, Oil& Gas, Equipment Engineering environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting operating industrial facilities strongly preferred
  • Mechanical systems knowledge including rotating equipment, piping systems, and thermal equipment
    Hands-on troubleshooting in industrial environments
  • Experience with fabrication methods and machine shop tools
  • Proficiency in mechanical CAD design, drafting, and drawing review
  • Experience developing P&IDs and fabrication packages
  • Familiarity with high-temperature and process equipment environments
  • Deep familiarity with SolidWorks and Fusion, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and industrial regulations
  • Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) environments preferred
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Move items up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
  • Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
  • Climb stairs or over containment walls
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location

The starting base pay for this role is between $105,000 and $140,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila's competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, equity. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
