The Income Tax Manager supports the company's federal and state income tax compliance and tax accounting functions. This role focuses on preparing and reviewing federal corporate income tax returns and supporting workpapers, while also contributing to state income tax compliance and the quarterly and annual tax provision processes.
This position partners closely with internal finance and accounting teams, as well as external advisors, to ensure accurate, timely tax reporting and compliance. In addition, the Income Tax Manager supervises and mentors a Senior Tax Analyst and drives process improvements and operational efficiencies across the tax department.PositionManager, Tax (Income Tax)LocationUSA, Louisville, KYHow You'll Create Possibilities
  • Leads the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, along with supporting schedules and workpapers, ensuring timely and accurate compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Coordinates with third-party service providers on the preparation and review of federal and state R&D tax credit studies, including data gathering, documentation, calculations, and final deliverables.
  • Manages and tracks state depreciation adjustments and other state conformity differences, including IRC Section 174 capitalization and amortization.
  • Researches and analyzes federal and state tax matters, documenting technical positions, conclusions, and recommendations as needed.
  • Supports federal and state income tax audits by gathering documentation, responding to information requests, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Contributes to quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations and reporting under ASC 740, including preparing and reviewing supporting schedules, reconciliations, and tax account analyses.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance tax reporting and compliance efficiency.
  • Applies foundational management skills and broad technical tax knowledge to lead and support a team, overseeing scheduling, prioritization, and adherence to financial and operational policies while supervising and mentoring staff through work review, technical guidance, performance management, and fostering a culture of accountability and professional development.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with finance, accounting, treasury, legal, and operational teams on moderately complex tax matters and business initiatives.
  • Assists with special projects, tax planning initiatives, and other departmental priorities as assigned.

Educational and Experiential Background

  • May require a University degree and/or technical certification and 5 years minimum prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with U.S. federal and multistate corporate income tax compliance required.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience in corporate income taxation, with a background in public accounting and/or a large corporate tax department.
  • Solid understanding of ASC 740 income tax accounting and tax provision processes.
  • Experience in a large multinational and/or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with CorpTax tax software and Oracle accounting systems.
