Job description

Position Description: This position will coordinate, manage and provide a full range of social, educational, recreational and health activities. The program offers year-round, weekly and ongoing specialized and inclusive activities and support for individuals with intellectual, cognitive and developmental disabilities, their family, and caregivers.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
1. Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement recreation programs that serve the needs of varied ages of people with disabilities.
2. Coordinate and coach participants of Wrangler Special Olympic Team in specific sport activity. Oversee volunteer coaches, keep up to date with all Special Olympics administrations.
3. Implement and sometimes facilitate classes. Manage and schedule classes, program assistant, instructors, and volunteers.
4. Plan for the efficient use and care of the center, its equipment, and supplies. Maintain awareness of safety factors and regulations that promote a safe, comfortable and attractive environment for participants.
5. Working with the center staff and volunteers, integrate special recreational programs.
6. Organize publicity, which may include, but is not limited to newsletters, social media, flyers, invitational calling, press releases, video etc.
7. In conjunction with other staff, recruit, train, and supervise program volunteers, including paid instructors.
8. Set up, take down and move furniture, equipment and supplies as needed.
9. Establish effective relationships with other community groups and understand how to use community resources.
10. Responsible for facilitating off site schedules, field rentals and use.
11. Other duties as necessary and assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervised by the Health & Wellness Director. Maintains positive working relationships with Center staff and volunteers and others in the community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: May supervise staff and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requirements:
1. Bachelors degree in recreation, social work, education or related field, or comparable experience or certification.
2. Two years experience working with people with disabilities and seniors.
3. Knowledge of behavioral modification.
4. Program planning experience.
5. Valid Drivers license and reliable access to an insured vehicle
6. Typical hours during the week with occasional weekends.
7. Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
Ideal Candidate:
1. Special Olympics Coaching Certification or Special Olympics knowledge
2. Supervisory experience
$20.00 - $24.00 Hourly
