Material/Process Inspector I - Salary Grade - B18: $45,521.00 - $71,055.00 yearly
Material/Process Inspector II - Salary Grade - B19: $48,244.00 - $76,028.00 yearly
This position is for one (1) Material/Process Inspector I or II. TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position DescriptionPerforms material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential duties of a Material/Process Inspector I: - Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers.
- Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
- Performs tests and inspection duties.
- Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
Additional duties of a Material/Process Inspector II:- Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs.
Minimum Qualifications:Education - Material/Process Inspector I and II:- High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
- Material/Process Inspector I: None.
- Material/Process Inspector II: 1 year laboratory work, material inspection or other engineering-related work (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Competencies:Material/Process Inspector I:
Some skill in:
- Giving attention to detail and reviewing information to identify any errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information
- Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Material/Process Inspector II (in addition to those above):
Some knowledge of:
- Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures
- Laboratory testing procedures and methodologies
Some skill in:
- Conducting laboratory tests
- Calibrating equipment
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Material/Process Inspector I and II:
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 pounds at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 pounds
- Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
