Job Description
Job Title: Quality Inspector Date: August 2026
Reports To: Quality Control Supervisor
Summary
American Fan has an opportunity for a Quality Inspector based in our Fairfield, OH facility. Our QA department focuses on inspecting all products and supporting the manufacturing processes. The Quality Inspector position is responsible for conducting inspections of both manufactured and purchased equipment components, evaluating and improving inspection and manufacturing processes, and supporting the business processes to meet company strategic goals.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect parts and assemblies using appropriate measuring and test equipment to verify compliance to drawings and instructions. This includes the review of supplier documentation to support receiving inspection activities. These inspections are performed during the receipt inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection phases, and they include documenting and communicating inspection results in a complete, clear and concise manner. These inspection duties may include driving to a supplier's facility for the inspection as the job dictates.
  • Perform visual weld inspections to verify compliance to acceptance criteria contained in drawings, codes, etc., during receipt inspection, in-process inspection, and/or final inspection activities. This may include driving to a supplier's facility for the inspection as the job dictates.
  • Review and compare job records with sales order documentation and the manufactured equipment to verify compliance of the work completed or parts purchased to the job requirements.
  • Assist Manufacturing Associates by interpreting the drawings, instructions, and job documents to provide a good understanding of the requirements applicable to the job.
  • Perform Testing (Leak, Permeability, Dimensional, etc.) in accordance with applicable Quality Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Record and report any nonconformance in a complete, clear, and concise manner. This includes documenting the nonconformance through tags, forms, pictures, etc., and entering it on the appropriate log. Once the paperwork is complete, the Inspector will follow up on the nonconformance to assist in determining a solution, documenting any actions to be taken, and performing inspection of completed repairs in order to close the nonconformance. Once complete the inspector will close out the nonconformance on its documentation and log.
  • Communicate in a clear and concise manner with shop personnel and managers regarding the results of inspections, nonconformance, schedules, instructions, issues, and tips.
  • Collect, calibrate and return meters and test equipment requiring calibration. This includes, but is not limited to, performing the calibration, documenting the results, writing a requisition for the calibration of a tool, and updating the status indicator and calibration recall system.
  • Participate in and adhere to all company safety programs, such as the Find-it/Fix-it program.
  • Support the company Job Safety Analysis activities as assigned by management.
  • Generate and update quality management system documents, such as procedures, work instructions, and forms when assigned by management.
  • Review customer documents, such as welding specifications, and assist in the preparation of quality documents for customer and supplier submittal to ensure those customer requirements are met.
  • Participate in regulatory, internal, customer and third party audits in collaboration with other quality functions to fulfil various quality program requirements.
  • Interface with customers to support their on-site inspections.
  • Perform the housekeeping duties identified for the QA Work Areas to support the company 5S efforts.
  • Follow safe work practices by attending all required EH&S training, reporting safety incidents and near misses on a timely basis, and maintaining the goal of "zero" lost time incidents.
  • Provides support for the HAF ISO quality system in accordance with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Complete in a timely manner any and all items, projects, or quick wins as instructed by the Quality Engineer and/or the Quality Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in quality management systems such as ISO 9001, and mechanical inspection in a manufacturing or service environment.
  • Experience in welding, weld inspection, forging, casting, fabrication, machining, or assembly of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to qualify as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector and VT Level II Inspector
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - active listener, clear and concise communicator (both oral and written); proven collaboration skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
  • High moral and ethical standards; integrity is continuously apparent.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as typing.

Desirable
  • Associate's degree in related field.
  • Professional certification (AWS CWI, ASQ, ASNT)
  • Additional Quality and business certifications - Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
  • Working knowledge and first hand experience in Quality programs
  • Working knowledge of current ERP/MRP system preferred.
