Are you an experienced electrical or traffic signal technician looking to make a direct impact on your community? In this role, you'll install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the advanced traffic signal and roadway lighting systems that keep Charlotte County moving safely and efficiently. From computerized traffic signals and fiber optic communications to roadway lighting and utility locates, your expertise will help ensure reliable transportation infrastructure for thousands of residents and visitors every day.
You'll install, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated traffic signal controllers, fiber optic communication systems, vehicle detection equipment, pedestrian crossings, and roadway lighting systems. Your work will include both routine preventative maintenance and emergency repairs, diagnosing electrical and electronic issues, restoring malfunctioning equipment, and ensuring all traffic control devices operate safely and reliably.
Using specialized diagnostic equipment and software, you'll troubleshoot complex electronic systems, repair high-voltage lighting infrastructure, and locate underground utilities to support construction and maintenance projects. You'll also operate equipment such as bucket trucks, crane trucks, forklifts, and other specialized vehicles while maintaining the tools and equipment needed to perform your work safely and effectively.
In addition to technical responsibilities, you'll monitor contractor work, maintain accurate records and reports, participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response, and may serve as a lead worker by providing guidance and support to team members. You'll also assist with developing training resources and delivering exceptional customer service while working with contractors, coworkers, and the public.

Your Purpose & Day-To-Day Journey
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent with some vocational or technical training in electronics.
• Three (3) years of experience in traffic signal installation or repair, electronics, or electrical trade.

Licenses and/or Certificates:

• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within six (6) months:
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I & II Traffic Signals
  • Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control certification (formerly FDOT Maintenance of Traffic).
• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain within twelve (12) months of position assignment:
  • Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with Air Brake endorsement.
  • IMSA Level I Roadway Lighting Certification

Education & Credentials That Power This Role
You have strong knowledge of electronics, electricity, and the principles of traffic signal control, along with experience maintaining and repairing traffic signals, fiber optic communication systems, video detection equipment, roadway lighting, school zone warning devices, drawbridges, and related infrastructure. You understand applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry safety standards and best practices for working in roadway environments.
You're skilled in troubleshooting electronic systems, computer circuitry, fiber optic communications, and video systems. You can confidently read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, roadway plans, and technical diagrams to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately and efficiently.
You're comfortable operating aerial lift devices, motor vehicles, and other equipment required to perform the work safely. You can work around energized electrical systems, at heights, and in varying weather conditions while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
You're organized, dependable, and able to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records and reports using standard computer applications. You communicate effectively, follow detailed technical instructions, and use sound judgment and resourcefulness to solve complex problems. When needed, you're able to provide guidance to coworkers, serve as a lead worker, and build positive working relationships with teammates, contractors, and the public while delivering exceptional customer service.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work requires moderate exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
