IMS is a hierarchical database and transaction management system used by large organizations for critical applications. The IMS System Programmer ensures the reliability and performance of IMS environments, applies updates and patches, tunes the system for optimal operation, and provides support for application developers and users. They play a key role in the stability and efficiency of enterprise data processing systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IMS System Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IMS System Programmer, you need a solid understanding of IBM mainframe environments, IMS databases, and programming languages like COBOL or Assembler, usually backed by a relevant degree or equivalent experience.
