Full-time

Job description

W.M. Schlosser Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager to lead project-specific quality control efforts and ensure that all construction activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, contract compliance, and client satisfaction.

The Quality Control Manager plays a critical role in protecting the integrity of our work by proactively managing quality throughout every phase of construction—from pre-construction planning through final closeout. This position requires a detail-oriented construction professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and owner representatives.

A successful candidate will understand that quality begins before work is installed. This includes conducting a comprehensive review of submittals, verifying materials against approved specifications and contract documents, and ensuring that every definable feature of work is properly planned, inspected, documented, and accepted.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, manage, and document project-specific quality control programs in accordance with the Quality Control Plan, project specifications, contract documents, and company standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of construction drawings, specifications, approved submittals, shop drawings, product data, samples, testing requirements, and manufacturer recommendations to confirm compliance before work begins.
  • Ensure that materials delivered to the jobsite conform to approved submittals, specifications, and contract documents prior to acceptance, storage, and installation.
  • Lead and document the Three Phases of Control for each definable feature of work:
  • Monitor jobsite workmanship, materials, installation practices, and testing activities to ensure compliance with approved documents, building codes, safety requirements, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular field inspections, audits, and quality control meetings with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and owner representatives.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and document special inspections, third-party testing, commissioning activities, and required quality-related inspections.
  • Identify, document, track, and resolve deficiencies, non-conformance issues, punch list items, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain complete and accurate quality control documentation, including daily QC reports, inspection checklists, meeting minutes, submittal logs, testing reports, certifications, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and closeout documentation.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, clients, inspectors, and trade partners to resolve quality-related issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Ensure proper storage, protection, labeling, handling, and installation of materials in accordance with approved submittals and manufacturer requirements.
  • Monitor quality control equipment, including calibration and maintenance requirements, to ensure accurate testing and inspection results.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and contract documents.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing submittals for completeness, accuracy, specification compliance, coordination conflicts, and constructability concerns.
  • Full understanding and practical implementation of the Three Phases of Control for each definable feature of work.
  • Proven ability to manage jobsite quality control processes in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Experience identifying defects, non-conformances, deviations, and quality risks before they affect project performance.
  • Knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural construction activities.
  • Familiarity with building codes, safety requirements, inspection procedures, testing protocols, and construction quality standards.
  • Strong documentation, communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with owners, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and internal project teams.
  • Proficiency in quality control reporting, project change administration, construction methods, and closeout documentation.
  • Ability to analyze recurring quality issues and lead corrective and preventive action processes.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and reducing rework through proactive planning, inspection, and communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field, or equivalent construction field experience
  • Current USACE/NAVFAC CQM certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Procore experience preferred
  • Ability to work on active construction sites and travel as needed
