About this Role - Project Manager
We are looking for a talented Project Manager who has passion for quality construction. This position is responsible for providing leadership and support to all aspects of the company's excavating operation to include safety, operations, P&L, planning, scheduling, cost monitoring, cost reporting, customer reporting, performance tracking, budgeting, estimating, change orders, billing, marketing, staff development, business development and bid development.
What You'll Do
- Provide day-to-day oversight, support, and technical expertise to a portfolio of excavating projects
- Assure crews and contractors are coordinated to work efficiently and meet customer requirements, budgets, forecasts, and schedules
- Manage staff, prepare budgets, and prepare work schedules and assigning specific duties
- Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the implementation and management of the MJE Safety Management System and ensuring best practices are being followed.
- Integrate safety into project plans, establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, support safety training, and monitor safety metrics.
- Support and coach supervisors and employees, provide feedback to encourage learning and create awareness, set priorities, and focus on continuous improvement
- Support the development of technical scopes of work and independently develop cost estimates and resource requirements for excavating related construction projects
- Provide support to request for proposal (RFP) preparation and evaluations, project specifications, and pricing schedules for the excavating construction projects
- Work with Project Managers with project scope development and project authorization through completion
- Ensure that MJE Senior Management is kept current on the progress of excavating construction projects, business opportunities and industry trends
- Systematically and regularly appraise and evaluate project progress against established goals, timelines, and objectives. Support Project Managers to correct deficiencies in these areas
- Consult with Utilities, Clients and Owners regarding design requirements, job specifications, bid requirements and offer technical expertise regarding construction solutions
- Assist with the development of common systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, subcontractors, record keeping, documentation and budgeting
- Assist with the tracking of key performance and financial metrics that will optimize performance, productivity and reduce costs
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and estimates, including drawing take-offs
- Work with Project Managers to set up job structure from beginning i.e. safety, scheduling, document control plan, cost codes, job cost spread, material/tooling plan, equipment, billing, etc.
- Assist in job hand off from estimating to field project supervision
- Work with purchasing on material orders and required submittals
- Travel to project(s) on a regular basis
- Provide weekly updates on project progress to the Operations Manager
- Assist with the quotation of change orders from drawing changes, RFI's, etc.
- Oversee Assistant Project Managers to assure the monthly financial bridge, job forecasts and monthly reporting requirements are met and are accurate
- Work with customer and field management on schedule development and assist in maintaining during course of project
- Ensure the project has adequate resources to maintain schedule, budget and exceed safety expectations
- Interact with customer on project with positive long-term relationship in mind
- Ensure billing is timely submitted along with payment follow through

- Experience in one or more of the following preferred: transmission access road and pad building, grading, storm sewer installations, precast foundation installation, and/or anchor installation such as solid bar, hollow bar, helical anchors, precast anchors
