Douglas ESD is accepting applications to fill the position of Autism Consultant in ourSpecial Education department. This position is 190 days per year, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day to begin in the 2026-27 school year.

SALARY RANGE: $51,120 - $88,094 (depending on relevant verifiable experience and degree)
Bachelor's degree scale range: $51,120 - $85,943
Master's degree scale range: $52,394 - $88,094
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, assist with the evaluation, assessment, instruction, and curriculum modifications using research-based/evidence-based practice for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Additionally, assist in development and implementation of programs designed to modify the student's behavior. Furthermore, support school teams, families, and other support staff through consultation, technical assistance, modeling of best practice instructional techniques, and workshops.
DUTIES: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Full job description attached in Applitrack.
  • Through formal and informal training and consultation, provide information regarding areas of impact for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or behavior disorders. This includes strengths and challenges in the areas of communication, social skills, behavior, sensory needs, learning style, classroom structure, and curriculum presentation.
  • Assesses students' functioning levels using appropriate evaluation instruments.
  • Provides a full continuum of services including direct instruction, consultation, and technical assistance to staff and families.
  • Develop and implement in-services for the purpose of providing needed training for educational staff, parents, and administrators
  • Provide training and materials for implementing data collection and progress monitoring systems for students with autism and/or behavior disorders.
  • Provide in-depth observation of students to assess the physical environments, peer interactions, staff abilities, and what accommodations and strategies are being or may be implemented
  • Create, provide, and teach the use of visual supports. For example: schedules, social narratives, positive reinforcement systems, cue cards, communication systems, etc.
  • Provide resources and support to staff relating to all core areas of academics including social skills groups and/or curriculum for students, taking into consideration social/communication expectations across age and developmental levels.
  • Implement a behavior management program when necessary to assist student in behavior management; providing education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions.
  • Provide assistance in writing and monitoring behavior plans, safety plans, and bus plans.
  • Participate in the eligibility IFSP/IEP process: attend evaluation planning meetings, conduct file reviews, provide observations, assessments, and written summaries for eligibility meetings attend IFSP/IEP meetings for students, assist in writing IFSP/IEP goals.
  • Work closely with families to provide them with training that reinforces and generalizes the skills being worked on in school.
  • Attend district transition and IFSP meetings for 5 year old students birth to five transitioning into kindergarten.
  • Maintain communication with appropriate school personnel, students, and families.
  • Work closely with teams to coordinate, manage, assess needs, and determine student assignment in regards student placement.
  • Attends meeting, training, and conferences and travel to a variety of work sites for the purpose of obtaining or providing information.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to and from school locations in the Douglas ESD service area and may be required to travel on overnight assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) or equivalent in area of Special Education.
  • Possess or ability to obtain an Oregon TSPC license.
  • Must be or have the ability to become CPI certified.
