Overview
The national multidisciplinary design firm has several excellent opportunities for talented Fire Protection Engineers to join their Washington, DC, Boston, MA, Minneapolis, MN and/or Milwaukee, WI teams. They are seeking experienced candidates for multiple positions to continue to expand their Fire Protection Department and work alongside our other architecture and engineering disciplines. With 12 offices across the nation, their portfolio includes the design of healthcare facilities, corporate headquarters, labs, museums, local, state, and federal government facilities, higher education buildings and campuses, and infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the design and/or review of fire protection and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects
  • Coordinate with and support other A/E disciplines
  • Participation in design review meetings and workshops
  • Assist with preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety
  • Create specification documentation for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Perform fire suppression and alarm systems calculations
  • Evaluate building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems
  • Provide construction administration support including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and witnessing the testing of fire protection systems
  • Coordination with all applicable local authority departments to obtain approval at all stages of the project, including creation of code modification requests and engineering judgments
  • Perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Professional fire protection engineering experience, including familiarity with the International Code Council (ICC), NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72.
  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering a plus
  • Registered Fire Protection PE preferred
  • NICET certification in Water-Based System Layout, Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazards Systems a plus (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies)
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office skills required
