POSITION SUMMARY:
Guide players throughout the instructional basketball experience and assist them with basketball drills and fundamentals. Ensure safety and wellbeing of players. Supervise players and to ensure that player and parent needs and expectations are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Supports new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains relationships with members and school offices.
  2. Assist in the supervision of basketball drills; ensure all player participation in group and individual drills. Actively participate in drills as required to encourage participation. Build relationships with players to assess individual needs and interests. Ensure that all program objectives are met.
  3. Interpret and maintain safety and health policies and procedures; review and understand your roles and responsibilities in emergency procedures; ensure appropriate behavior of players to avoid risk of accidents; maintain awareness of player physical well being; adhere to policies and procedures when caring for injured players; report all incidents. Ensure a safe environment.
  4. Serve as role model for players. Dress in appropriate basketball attire with appropriate appearance and health habits; arrive at assigned time; display good sportsmanship; maintain positive attitude about basketball and players; use appropriate language; follow YMCA rules and regulations.
  5. Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding player and basketball drills. Ensure that players and parents are comfortable with the activities and supervision of basketball.
  6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  7. Assists in YMCA special events.
  8. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. One to two years related experience preferred
  2. Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 18 (define).
  3. Experience working with children.
  4. Enthusiasm and patience with children.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. Ability to communicate with players, visualize players and recognize hazards, deal effectively with inappropriate behavior.
