Position Overview
The Coaching Assistant for Men's Basketball supports student-athlete academic success and welfare while helping lead a competitive program. Responsibilities include recruiting student-athletes, assisting with practices, games, and travel operations, supporting administrative functions, promoting accountability and team culture, and engaging in community outreach and donor relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching and Player Development
  • Plan, organize, and administer the Men's Basketball program
  • Lead, motivate, and develop student-athletes athletically, academically, personally, and as leaders
  • Foster accountability, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture
  • Develop and implement practice sessions
  • Evaluate team and opponent performance to determine game strategy and manage/prepare team for competition
  • Determine and execute game strategy in consultation with the Head Coach

Recruiting and Student Athlete Success
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA Division II regulations
  • Provide resources to support and monitor academic success
  • Promote personal development, leadership, and positive team culture

Operations and Administrative Support
  • Assist with travel coordination, scheduling, and day-to-day program logistics
  • Support equipment management and practice/game preparation
  • Perform administrative tasks such as documentation, reports, and coordination with athletic staff

External Relations
  • Promote the program to alumni, campus, and external stakeholders
  • Serve as social media liaison
  • Organize and participate in fundraising and alumni engagement
  • Represent the University as directed by athletics leadership

Required Qualifications
Education - Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Experience - Two (2) years of college coaching experience.
Registration/Licenses - Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • NCAA recruiting and coaching experience
  • NCAA recruiting certification, CPR, First Aid, AED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with Student Athletes and staff
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of office software and Basketball Software programs
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
  • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt course and the course content
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes

Additional Information
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
